"Hey all"

That's how I kicked off the On That Note series a year ago. It was an idea that @cyclones500 and I had been kicking around for a while; so we finally decided to take the plunge. The first installment is linked below. Reading it again, in retrospect, it seems a bit stuffy. But it's also kind of interesting looking back on where it started and where it is now.

We'd like to thank all who have appreciated our efforts and chimed in with thoughts and songs. It's been fun. Sometimes a bit of work and sometimes Wednesday morning is a very inconvenient time to post, depending on a life situation. So, at this, the one year mark, we've all decided to give ourselves a bit of a pat on the back for consistency at least. We never missed a week!

I'd must mention our third member who came on board earlier this year. He was very cautious not to step on toes, but c500 and I both loved adding him to the mix. He has come to be a valuable member of our team. It's nice to have him as a regular contributor. Thanks @CycloneRulzzz for helping us out and climbing aboard. I think it's kind of cool to have me, the old timer and c500 in the middle with Rulzzz having the younger outlook. It keeps us covering a lot more ground than anyone of us could cover alone. And the nice thing is, I think anyway, we're all 3 open to music from way-back-then to now. I love that!

It's been fun. (I know, I already said that!) I am always amazed (and sometimes a bit trepidatious before checking back) to see what people think of our offerings. But mostly you've been great and very supportive, rarely knocking anyone's musical tastes. Very classy!

I know we three have learned a lot and discovered some new-to-us music that might never have popped up on our radar. For that I thank you all, including c500 and Rulzzz.

One thing we all agree on is that we do appreciate fresh topic ideas. @BoxsterCy gave us the one for last week on bad lyrics. So far we've not run out of ideas but it is always nice to have suggestions. So we encourage a PM from anyone who has an idea for an OTN topic. Please chime in.

This is the first installment from a year ago. August 2, 2017, to be exact. It says On That Note was not the official title. I guess at this point it HAS become that.

*** OT - OFFICIAL cyclones500 & MeanDean Weekly Wednesday Music Post ***

Also we'd like to hear any specific favorite or interesting tidbits you readers might remember or would like to comment on from the year. What were some favorite topics? Memories, etc.? Was there a specific topic that first lured you to the series? And/or keeps you coming back? We'd like to make it as interesting as possible.

So, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY ON THAT NOTE!

I'd like to thank @MeanDean and @cyclones500 for inviting me into the OTN family.

Four months ago I submitted a topic to Cyclones500 and MeanDean. I figured they would run with it and throw me a mention. They agreed the topic was solid and encouraged me to host it. I was hesitant to do it at first because OTN is their thing. They said that they were looking for someone to take a week or two. Right off the bat we built a strong rapport and I came on as a regular contributor. We are kind of in the perfect spot age wise that we can hit quite a wide range of musical tastes.

I also echo MeanDean's comments about the response from you the OTN readers and contributors. It wouldn't be the same without all your efforts.

@MeanDean’s recap of Year 1 is a difficult act to follow.

He’s right, it has been a fun ride. In addition to enjoying the collaboration with MeanDean and @CycloneRulzzz as co-hosts, I still marvel at how many loyal followers OTN has drawn, many who add valuable contributions.

We put the key into the ignition, but fellow CF music-fanatics got the car up to cruising speed.

I don't know if I can list my favorite themes OTN has covered. Any time I get exposed to music I might not have encountered without the series, or someone reveals info about an artist, album or song I didn't know, that's a bonus.

--> "On that note...it's bedtime for Bonzo" Bonus points for the series reference! :)

Re: "Why are we still up?" I asked myself the same question about 17 minutes ago. I have no appropriate answer.

Re: tomorrow morning: My plan is to do a night-rooster bump, for the benefit of morning-owls.

OTN-precursor that may be of interest. I delved into the archive of discussions early in the process.

April 2017: MeanDean sent me a PM: “We seem to be the music geeks of the site."

He mentioned his Facebook page, where he routinely wrote about favorite songs, records and artists. I checked a few and liked what I saw. My thought was, "Seems like something I would do, if I were more highly motivated." :)

Based on previous CF music threads, I think we already were aware of some overlap in our listening tastes, notably The Beatles and other ‘60s-era stuff. As our PM exchange continued, we discussed record collecting, record labels, music history, artist bios and things in that vein.

A few weeks later came the first step toward the OTN series.

MeanDean: “Perhaps we could do some kind of alternating weekly post/article about some area of popular music.”

Immediately, the concept intrigued me. Several more weeks passed, as we talked about how to structure a series, ideas each of us had for possible topics. The rest, as they say, is history. :)

Nugget: If you haven’t yet clicked MeanDean’s link to OTN Volume 1: The first person to respond was @IsUaClone2: “I'm looking forward to these articles.”

Additional CF’ers who posted on Day 1: @Clone83, @Angie and @jcyclonee.
It doesn't seem like it's been a year. That's a good thing. Do I get an award for the most Barry Manilow references?

Maybe instead of "On That Note" we should have gone with "Music Geeks Geek Out on Music".
