My wife, once she knew I was onto this program, started to ask me about each week's topics while offering suggestions. But this selection is my own and favorite this week. Anyway I enjoy hearing from others who love music as I do. Reminds me of spending time with friends and sharing music in Ames so many years ago

Wow, 5 years of OTN. I first came across the weekly thread early in the current pandemic. I thought "wow this is great" and looked forward to it each Tuesday. I do consulting work and the org I where I was working ended several our our contracts early in late Feb 2020. What a time to be leaving a gig! And I had just purchased a new car. So, OTN became part of my schedule since I had some free time and there wasn't much happening in the market, and I was doing a bit of penny pinching.

Most every topic interested me, and I rediscovered some artists and old songs that I'd forgotten about. Plus, I learned about newer artists and songs too.

Soul, 60's, and 70's music is what I mostly listen to when driving nowadays.

I didn't realize that you took ideas from participants. I've had an idea for a topic but just have never proposed it. I'll send and idea or two in the near future.

Keep up the good work.

Based on the OTN archive and CF search, I think this was @CycloneRulzzz first appearance as guest host ... joined the team soon after:

Roundup of OTN recurring annual/semi-annual themes … curious which of these are most-popular/most-anticipated among our contributors/participants:
  • Albums-by-decade series (this year, we did 1962, ’72, ’82, etc.)
  • 25th anniversary top albums/singles (1997 retrospective coming later this year)
  • Rock & Roll Hall of Fame — favorite songs from that year’s inductees
  • New music encountered (or revisited) during the calendar year
  • Late Musicians (music icons who passed during the calendar year)
Perhaps you have ideas for a new recurring feature. If so, let us know, in-thread or send us a message in the Conversations section.

(Edit 62-72 etc not 60-70)

Looking back, an early favorite OTN theme for me, hosted by @MeanDean ... Thread got some good response, it's worth a revisit.

I appreciate the thought (and intent) that you all put into the themes and these threads. It takes determination to keep going, as I tell people who say they want to start a blog. You have to be able to sustain it and keep the enthusiasm, otherwise people won't come back.

More than a few of the songs (tunes?) have made me nostalgic, occasionally for my ISU undergrad days and a much younger me.

The competitive spirit is alive and well in these threads to see who gets any specific answer posted first with link. Do you know how difficult it is to use an iPhone 8 (small screen) to scroll quickly through what's already posted, open a browser window to search for what I want to add, find the link, return to the thread (scroll again) and hope that the post I'm doing actually works?! Of course you do.....
Keep on truckin' my music friends.
