ISU got jobbed on that first fumble. Whistle didn't blow until George was 10 yards away. Watching the replay the Texas RB wasn't down either at the time the ball came out. Seemed there was enough evidence to overturn the call on the field.

Two decisions that really, really cost us, one by Mess and one by Sam.

The 2nd and 1 play at the Texas 4 - really? Call a run up the gut? Not a smart call, probably cost us a touchdown and the win.

Sam's run on the next-to-last play: you can't do that there, not with no time outs. Throw the ball away. A run short of the first down gets us nothing.

So, those two decisions; the veritable yellow rain of penalty flags against us; and the failure to overturn the call on the clearly visible strip by George near our end zone. We had that ball. We should be celebrating a victory right now.

I just witnessed a robbery.

The worst part about games like this is that they give us false hope. We can complain about the bad officiating all we want, but we out ourselves in that position with stupid penalties. If we had executed better in the red zone, we would have a bigger cushion.

At at the end of the day, this is about missed opportunities. When we had the chance to put this away, we did not execute. You have to play the game for 60 minutes.

They should NOT have spiked it, but Sam should NOT have run on 2nd down. Throw it away if no one is open, but don't scramble unless you have an obvious path to a first down (which he didn't even come close to having).
Agree - you gotta chuck that ball out of bounds.

This is not a bad fball team. This team can still win 4-5 games. We were better in every phase of that game than tx accept the score

That loss is totally on Rhoads. When you are Iowa State and you are playing Texas you PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!!! You go for the touchdown on that 4th down because a field goal loses you the game 31-30. With Texas's season and their coach's career on the line, there was no way they weren't going to man up and go score there. As Herm says, "you play to WIN the game." Playing not to lose will lose you a game every time. Love Rhoads to death, but that was a gutless call in my opinion.

I agree with this. If you trust your defense to keep them out of the endzone after kicking the FG, then wouldn't you trust them to keep them out of the endzone if you don't convert the TD? Plus if you don't get it, they have the ball inside their own 5.

ISU lost this game. Texas is bad. Which makes us worse.
The only call I didn't really agree with is the George strip.

IF ISU punches the ball in at the end we win. We didn't and we lose. We will be 1-7 which was my prediction after the iowa game anyway. This is sad because this game could have really turned things around.

NOt to mention....why the F## would you put a freshman in to cover an all american receiver for 4 straight downs?

Good effort but you can't give Texas 3 touchdowns on penalties and 1 hail mary. Seriously.....WTF.
Not sure why I even watch anymore.

Who else remembers the Kansas block call on Niang? Why do the big boys always get the benefit of the doubt? Now ESPN anchors are commenting that, "it's still just Iowa State." Nobody cares about how we continue to get screwed.

My problem is not giving the ball to Woody when it was 2nd and 1 on the 6 yard line. Instead we ran Wimberly up the gut and he got stuffed and we ended up having to kick the FG. That is Woody's role and he freaking always owns it. Did Mess not watch the Oklahoma St game a couple of years ago.

Sorry folks, ISU just won that football game. Refs took it away. Clear fumble, clear recovery. Period!
