I think the title speaks for itself.

I don't remember anyone ever complaining about student turnout when we were a below .500 team during McD's tenure, so why are you now???

We are having an amazing year in basketball which we haven't for the last 5 years, so enjoy it!! I can't speak for every student that bought tickets but as a former student during all of McD's tenure, I wouldn't want to go to games because we always seemed to lose, no matter how good we started the year off.

Give it a year before you start raising the pitchforks and going after the student section. Let us establish a "tradition" of winning before you criticize the student section for the lower turnout than the early 2000's. Remember, we had been an above .500 team year after year then with a few Big 12 Championships!

Good thing us "donors" do not feel the same and still donated during the McDermott years and continue to do so now.

Just like a friend, you find out who the true fans are during the bad times. You do not wait until everything is good and then show up.

Um, because we are a .714 team right now?

Because it made sense to not go to watch us get blown out, but it doesn't make sense to not go when we're a 20 win team with a shot at the NCAA tourney. For starters.

No thanks, I'll keep complaining about the pathetic turnouts but you guys have fun in here patting each other on the back for your fellow students not showing up on a weekday where you are all within 10 minutes of Hilton at a max, most within walking distance.

If people would show up then people wouldn't have to complain. But if fans don't like going I am not going to complain. Nothing I can do about it except go to every game like I do no matter if we are 30-0 or 0-30.

Here's another issue at least from my perspective. It's annoying that students get a pretty good price for lower bowl tickets compared to us regular folks and then don't show up.

I'm a student and think the student turnout has been horrible this year. No reason the student section shouldn't be at least 90% full every game.

Just got done taking a midterm, didn't stop me from going to the game last night.

The most annoying thing about people complaining is that us students who are on CF are probably at the game. We can't do anything about other students showing up so that's why we hate those threads. I go to every game and cheer and I know a lot of other students on here do the same.

No they wouldn't have to, but they still will. :spinny:

I feel the same way though. Why all the fuss about something you have no control over? Just show up and support the team, unless you can provide something constructive to these students to help get their attendance up.

Would it help if they stopped selling basketball packaged with football season tickets? Some students buy the whole package even though they only want to go to the football games and then their tickets are wasted when basketball season rolls around.

It boils down (imho) that it is clear some thinkgs need to be tweaked for next year (easier ticket transfer, CA, perhaps reducing ticket allocations, ect).

However, as long as we have a posted sellout for several games, and hundreds of empty seats inside when people cannot get tickets outside, there will be a large focus on this. It is not go to go away that easy.

Having said this, I give a ton of credit to all students who have been there this year, they have done a great job overall.

Just my opinion.

The student section looked like the student section of a team having a mediocre team, not a team that is fighting to go to the tourney for the first time in years and has a lot riding on the game.

Because we sucked then. Nobody was suprised that nobody wanted to go watch a McPlaybook team. We don't suck anymore. Why should we have to be good over the course of multiple season for people to want to get out and watch what has become a very exciting team? It's not like students are deciding that day whether or not to buy the tickets. The tickets have been purchased. The hard part is done. All you have to do is get to a freakin' basketball game. It's a 2 1/2-3 hour commitment out of your day. If you have an actual class/lab or have to work during the game, it's completely understandable. Otherwise, sleep a couple less hours, study through the night and go to the game.

Granted ISU was good when I was in school, but I honestly can't remember ever missing a home game, whether it was Marathon Oil or Kansas. I just can't imagine missing games. There will come a day when all of these empty seat holders are living hours away from Ames with a family that makes it tough to get to 1 game a year. They are going to wonder why the hell they chose to sit out some of the best experiences of their life.

A lot of us "old timers" remember when Hilton Magic was based on the crowd being at the game and in the game. During the 30 some home winning streak in the 90s, student seating rotated from upper deck to parquet and arena. When you had parquet and arena seats, almost EVERYONE went to the game no matter who the other team was.
Maybe we need to go back to this. Sounds like CA members are so used to being in the Arena that having good seats doesn't mean much anymore.

You guys are ******* pathetic. REAL (paying/donating) fans would kill for your seats and you can't even be dragged from your Xbox and sexting to show up and make noise.
