How soon do you think the shoe companies will jump into the fray? Think about the recent Adidas stuff. If I ran a shoe company, I'd be a lot more interested in steering a kid toward the G-league, where payments can be above the board and legal. They've already identified the likely one and done kids when they're in highschool.

I’m suprised Nike didn’t just hit Zion with a 100 million dollar deal if he didn’t go to Duke. Like get the jump on everyone.

That's basically what we're looking at happening. Some will still play in college, but there will be legitimate alternative avenues to get to the pros.

Agree. Would anyone even remember the names of the top five prospects last year if they had went overseas to play basketball? I wouldn't, short of maybe Zion who had all kinds of buzz coming out of HS.

not sure I could name any but Zion and Ja Morant now....Zion because that is all ESPN talked about..and Ja because of the unique name and connection to an ISU assistant.

Are people ever going to watch the Greensboro Swarm like they do Duke and UNC, though? The money comes from and for the eyeballs, not necessarily for the talent.

Even if every 5* recruit in the future goes overseas or to the D-League, the relevant fans of college basketball are going to keep watching their schools like they always have, even if the top tier of talent is skimmed off going professional much earlier.

I'm not sure that follows. The shoe companies don't really make money from the player's exposure in college. Not much anyway They steer players to schools they're affiliated with so that they can keep up their influence and hopefully make money on them after they turn pro. Look at Brian Bowen. Adidas was willing to spend 100k on him before he'd played a second of college ball, to steer him to Louisville because.. of the exposure he'd get there? How does that translate into dollars for them? Enough to make 100k worth it? Of course not. The gamble is on what he's going to be worth in the pros. It's 100k to keep him within their network, and under their influence, in hopes that he'd sign with them in the future. Certainly there are some players that benefit from the exposure that college basketball gives them. But the one and done types are already on the shoe companies radar, and they'd be willing to commit serious cash to them regardless of if they play in college or in the G league.

Thats a rough thread to go through especially with the players we did take in for the class. We really went after the south and it did not work out at all.

I tried to find a Ty Terry thread but could not. This was the next best thing. Sorry.
