Agree, we are full. And now that we are pollinated the usage rate will start to fall off a bit as well. If we can make it through tonight it looks like a good stretch to dry outI don’t think there’s anywhere else for the water to go. Driving around the farms the other day (before Sunday/Monday rain) the ditches were full, tile lines running full and water standing between the rows. Some soil may be able to take a bit more rain, but not much more.
Ag drainage takes a lot of heat, but I think the way the rain has fallen this year is a scenario where it has taken the top off of the peak flows. Just enough time between these 1-2” events to create some room for infiltration.A few factors - Our soil profile was still pretty dry after 3 years of drought. Quite a few water holding reservoirs were still low. The largest in my opinion - Most of the large rains have come after late June when the crops are large and utilizing a lot of water daily - 0.25" or more at times. If we had been getting all this rain in March or April the picture would look much different because of the utilization rate.
I think we've taken all that we can. Won't be surprised to see some flooding if we get a big event tonight.
As well as another point I didn't mention, it's been really hot the past month which increases evapotranspiration even more. The crops are working hard to keep cool between those rains pushing that daily utilization rate even higher.Agree with all of this but would add to part of the crop utilization point that the rain has also been spread out well for the amount that's fallen. Lots of 1-2 inch rains usually a few days apart, pretty isolated cases of extreme heavy events.
If it’s higher than the max…….does that mean the max is not really the max?Gonna have to mow AGAIN tonight, Every 3 days right now and I have my mower 1/2 setting higher than the max.
Im so sick of mowing. Neighbor is gone for 2 weeks on vacay so Im on double duty.Gonna have to mow AGAIN tonight, Every 3 days right now and I have my mower 1/2 setting higher than the max.
A few out of bank and lots of them clear full. More rain tonight. Sigh.I honestly don't know how every single creek and river in the state isn't already flooded.
Years of drought. Lots of storage room in the system still.I honestly don't know how every single creek and river in the state isn't already flooded.
Radar does not look friendly tonightA few out of bank and lots of them clear full. More rain tonight. Sigh.
No it does not. Slower track also not as good either.Radar does not look friendly tonight
Yep. Ames getting hammered once again. Talked to a local roofer. He said they can't keep up with all the roofs leaking. So tired of rain...
I'll never forget standing in my living room looking at the window and watching our 40 foot pine fall in just about the only spot it could have fallen without destroying our home. I'll never forget how quickly that thing kicked up and the kind of damage it did.
I'll never forget waking up at 10:30 in the morning to my bedroom still being pitch black and the sirens going. To be fair, most of us have PTSD from that storm. Seeing glass shatter and embed in drywall will do that lol
I’m in Honolulu right now - nothing. Pretty sure it’s worse for you all.Could be worse. Tsunami warning for Hawaii and Alaska
