Lynn Melling joined the Channel 13 News team in July of 2005 to anchor on weekend evenings and report three days a week. She came to the station from KTUU-TV in Anchorage, AK where she was anchoring their weekend newscasts and reporting during the week.
Prior to Alaska, Lynn was a reporter at WBOC-TV in Salisbury, MD. She graduated with a Broadcast Journalism, International Studies and Spanish triple major from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN, in May 2001. While in college, she interned at WCCO-TV, KSTP-TV and WMNN news radio in Minneapolis.
Lynn is quite accomplished, earning first place honors in investigative reporting from SPJ Pacific Northwest Excellence in Journalism as well as first place awards for Breaking News and News Feature from the Alaska Press Club. She spent her junior year of college studying in Madrid and traveling around the rest of Europe. While studying abroad, she spoke Spanish for a live talk-radio show once a week.
Lynn was born and raised in a tiny town in central Minnesota. In the summer of 1998, after enduring a horrendous road trip from Minnesota to Alaska, she interned at KIMO-TV in Anchorage. Imagine a nine-day journey with nine relatives in a van and motor home. While she loves her family dearly, she just couldn't survive the return trip home.
In her spare time, Lynn loves to run, bike, hike, water ski, Rollerblade, golf, travel, vacuum and hang out with her mom. She decided to stick with writing after she found out she was no good in math or science.
