I can provide more data if you'd like. Let's look at Ashley Joens from her sophomore year on:
2020: 20.5 ppg, 10.9 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.6 spg, 41% FG, 80% FT
2021: 24.2 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.0 spg, 46% FG, 88% FT
2022: 20.3 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 2.0 apg, 0.9 spg, 41% FG, 85% FT
2023: 21.6 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.1 spg, 41% FG, 83% FT

Nearly an identical player for 4 STRAIGHT YEARS. Where is all of this player development happening??
Don’t know if using an AA and three time Cheryl Miller award winner’s stats are the best example of needing ‘player development’.

How about the other 4 players I mentioned?

Do you really think player development has been a strength of the WBB program? I think it’s been a huge weakness and needs significant improvement if we are going to take the next step from good program to very good program.

I don’t think Crooks is a very good example of ‘needs significant improvement’ either. Many on his board thought she would not even be able play at the power level coming from small town Algona. But yet she’s an AA.

Maybe there won’t be any. In my very limited knowledge, I was only suspecting 1 from what I have heard and no, I won’t say who.

If no one leaves it might be a quiet off season for ISU since status quo gives us a roster of 13 for next season. Basically someone will get recruited over if they all stay and we add anyone of top rotation level and per reports we are looking and have at least a visit from Jada Williams.

With all of the transfers in and out we have a bit of an unbalanced roster with SEVEN juniors and no sure fire stars in 2025 and 2026 HS classes.

Iowa was in an even fuller roster situation heading into this season but they were able to add Olsen but she was able to come in as a player that would obviously be the "star" and team leader. Think that's more difficult for us since we have a very full roster (assuming no departures) and a star the entire scheme is built around. I just don't see it as a very attractive landing spot for a top tier portal transfer. If we had no Brown as Crooks running mate than a player like Utah's Kneepkens would be a perfect fit for ISU ball but as it stands right now that is not the case (IMHO). Best possible add might be a pass first low scoring PG that isn't looking to be a big scorer.

Not exactly sure.

I would say a PG would be the main area of help.

I would say if I was a good PG this would be a perfect spot. You would still be a pretty important part of the team and would have a starting spot.

I’m not saying anyone NEEDS significant improvement. But generally you want players to get better with experience…and ours really haven’t.

This isn’t a dig on anyone, I’m only pointing out that we don’t really develop players very well and the data backs that up. For us to take the next step, we need that to happen.

Needs? IMO point guard first with the ability to score 8-10 per game and compliment Brown with 3-4 assists. Second, a scorer. Ideally someone who can make a quick move inside to give the option of hitting a three or short jumper.
Hopes? Williams develops more as a 4-5. In reality she's still young on experience so there's some hope. Hare being healthy. AJ getting healthy and contributing 7-8 ppg.

I figured about three or four players would transfer. Still think they need to add two starters - a PG and a stretch four - from the portal. Does anyone know of any other visits set up besides Williams?

Amazing how quiet it is on the women's side. I thought for sure we would have lost a couple perimeter players because of redundancy in skill-set among some of our perimeter players.

But we had so much turnover last spring, maybe the thought process is we got the players right and an off-season of S&C and playing together will create a different result. I have not idea what kind of impact the 2 incoming freshman recruits will have, but they add to a crowded group.

Seems like we have 2 big portal needs: a PG and a rebounding 3/4. But the bigger reality for me is the staff, they need to get a different result. Too many turnovers and too few offensive rebounds. Those are both point killers.

Just don’t see how they can bring back basically the same roster next season without Ryan and expect better results.
