Grew up very close to Maryville and not too surprised but this has now grown into way more than Nodaway county Missouri can handle with all the social media now covering this.

Nightmare in Maryville: Teens’ sexual encounter ignites a firestorm against family - KansasCity.com

Few dispute the basic facts of what happened in the early morning hours of Jan. 8, 2012: A high school senior had sex with Coleman’s 14-year-old daughter, another boy did the same with her daughter’s 13-year-old friend, and a third student video-recorded one of the bedding scenes. Interviews and evidence initially supported the felony and misdemeanor charges that followed.Yet, two months later, the Nodaway County prosecutor dropped the felony cases against the youths, one the grandson of a longtime area political figure.

Seems pretty gutless of a prosecutor to at least not pursue charges on some level. It seems to be increasingly easy for prosecutors to throw their hands up and say "lack of evidence", knowing that the public will never really know what evidence they had at their disposal. It also seems crazy to suggest lack of cooperation from the victim, as I can't imagine she would be less-than-forthcoming with the police, only to then take her story to national news agencies. To me, this reeks of police and prosectuors just chalking this awful incident up to "boys being boys", and now the national media has caught wind of it and they look like fools.

If I'm that girls brother, that kids football career would come to a screeching halt. I'm not a tough guy or violent person but that **** would be dealt with if the legal system wasn't going to do it. ****, I might not even have to be her brother. What a piece of ****. It's one thing to get away with it but to then rub it in her face and for others to rub it in her face is awful.

I'm glad to see Annonymous getting involved. Their methods are suspect but you can't deny their results. See: Stuebenville.

you dont get it. The girls brother would have been hung in the courthouse lawn in this town if he had done that. This is the one of the saddest quotes from the article.

The parent of one of the teens at the Barnett house that night was the only one to comment briefly to The Star: “Our boys deserve an apology, and they haven’t gotten it yet.”

Talk about delusional and entitled.

With their history, I would think just the treat of involvement would get people to rethink letting this slide.

And also, it appears that statutory rape isn't going to stick due to the Missourah laws, but how about endangerment for getting her drunk and leaving her in freezing temperatures?

Saw this story posted on Facebook yesterday. Very sick story.

Apparently the Barnett kid is a freshman at Central Missouri. There is a Facebook page called Justice For Daisy and since this story has broken the students at CMU apparently have been yelling Justice For Daisy at him on campus. Life is about to get real uncomfortable for him and the whole town of Maryville.

As as a father of two little girls I hope his life is a living hell for a long time as well as everyone else involved in this whole debacle.
