I like the note that basically says that no one likes the Jets.

I found the Nevada area to be cowboys fans interesting.

Looks like Story County reps the Packers

Kind of the reason people consider the cowboys Americas team comes from this map. Very far reaching fan base, even if the team has been ****** for years and years.

What am I missing with the Steelers and South Carolina? Probably an obvious connection I'm overlooking...

More Vikings fans in Iowa than Texans fans in Texas.

Except that's not true because Houston and it's suburbs has a bigger population (6,000,000+) than Iowa (3,000,000+) and it's not even all of Iowa. Plus the Texans have been around for like 12 years.

Looks like Polk and Linn are both Bears counties. Story is Packers. I don't get why Pottawattamie is Cowboys (other than the Cowboys as the "default" team nationwide, similar to Yankees for MLB), or why most of the populated areas in Nebraska are Packers.

And I agree with the earlier post about the strangeness of the Steelers pocket in South Carolina... that's the only thing that really doesn't make sense to me

are the broncos americans team?

The populations of the states where the Broncos have the majority of counties (not even majority of people, so I'm counting Nebraska and being generous to the Broncos) add up to less than the population of Pennsylvania alone.

So... no

Story is GB, above and to left of Story is Minnesota and Bears is below. So central Iowa really is melting pot of midwest nfl teams.

i would love to see a breakdown of dm metro

I bet it is the most distributed county in the nation with something like:

bears 30%
vikings 15%
chiefs 25%
packers 20%
rams 5%
others 5%

The 1970s were the decade of the Steelers. Carolina hasn't always had a team (nor has Tennessee) and the Steelers have been around forever. Besides Washington on the east coast and Atlanta/Miami (since the mid 60s and 1970) there wasn't much competition for fans, and Pittsburgh was really good. Then, the 80s hit Pittsburgh hard with the de-industrialization and closure of many steel mills in and around the city, sending many residents packing for the south. Bound to be some moving to S.C. to work in mills there and/or retire. Just a leftover of Steelers fans and their offspring from the old days outnumbering the mix of ATL/CAR fans in those counties.

I'm most impressed with Arizona. They took every county in their own state - their gigantic county sizes surely helped - and not one anywhere else in the country.

And I was quite surprised by how many counties in Southern Virginia went Cowboys.

I question the validity of the data. Arizona is Cowboys territory. Nobody cares about the Cardinals.

I would be curious to see what the Northwest would have looked like 10 years ago.
