"New Years Day" Bowls on the 2nd

Why? Besides the obvious it being a Sunday. Why would lets say the Rose Bowl willingly move to Monday? Or are they forced contractually?

NFL must have had dibs on the 1st.

Always been that way. When the 1st falls on a Sunday they move the games to the 2nd.
