Hey guys,
I'm looking at buying a pump action 12 gauge and was wondering what you guys thought. I'm looking at Benelli Nova and SuperNova and the Remington 870 Express and Wingmaster. Share your thoughts on these guns or any other guns in the $300-$500 price range. Thanks.

I have a Benelli Super Black Eagle and love it, although it was a little pricey. I hunted for years with an 870. For the money you can't go wrong with that.

I would recommend going to the gun show at the fairgrounds this weekend and picking up a gun for a hell of a lot cheaper

28" Barrel 3" chamber 12 ga. for $519 MSRP. I think they also have a rebate deal going. I love Brownings. I've got a 12 ga. Citori and a 16 ga. "Sweet Sixteen." Both are incredible shotguns. My next purchase will be a Browning Gold 12 ga. 3.5" chamber 28" autoloader for duck hunting. Seriously, if you're willing to spend a few bucks extra, Brownings are the way to go.

I also have an 870 and its a cheap, good gun. They can take a lot of abuse and still work fine.

I actually own both a nova and an 870. The word is that Nova's have trouble with rifled slugs. I am trying a few different brands to find a consistent one. The Nova is also heavier than an 870. I like both guns, but would probably lean towards an 870. The wingmaster is a sweet gun, and I have always liked those.

The 870 is a good all-purpose gun, I highly recommend it, especially if you are not worried about it getting roughed up or scratched some. I have one with screw-in chokes and I use it for hunting basically everything.

I've got a 870, 20 gauge. I got it when I was younger, otherwise I'd have a 20 gauge. Love it though!!

I have a Mossburg 500 12 gauge. Not sure if they still make that model, but it has been a real durable firearm for me. Usually priced comparably to the 870 express.

I have an 870 express super mag and I love it. I'm not a huge hunter, though. Just on occasion. It's a great gun for the money.

I have a Mossberg 500 as well - had it for over 12 years. They still sell it.

Haven't had a single problem with mine either.

Mossbergs are pretty good guns too. A lot of people like them because the safety is on top insead of by the trigger. The nice thing about having a cheaper gun is when you get it all scratched up from walking through brush is that you dont feel bad about it.

Sportsman's Warehouse in Ankeny are usually pretty darn close price wise to what you can get at gun shows.

I know because I have desired guns at a gun show, made it out without actually buying them, then end up giving in to my desires at Sportsman's Warehouse on the drive home.

Jax in Ames will usually match prices too. They gave me the same price as Sportsmans Warehouse had on my 870.

I too have a Mossberg 500. You can drop it in the mud, Rinse it off with sand and it will come out firing. I've hunted with the 500 all my life and will probably never switch due to the location of the saftey. My son bought a Super Nova last fall and is very happy with it. Good Luck.
