New OC

I'd think he might have interest if the Bucs get rid of Schiano. Most of his family is in the Ames so that would have to help...

Always been a huge Loney fan - the four years he was our OC we four of our greatest years! I like his style and his balanced attack. Not to mention he is a hell of a O-Line coach.

Someone mentioned Tony Alford before - very interesting. No OC experience but a ton at a high level. Being ND's recruiting coordinator is a huge plus.

Always like to find guys who aren't already thinking "how the heck can I get out of Iowa?"

Klenakis wore a polo only during warmups last Saturday. I want a guy with cajones like that to lead my offense.

How about hiring that high school coach who never punts? We would revolutionize college football!

I like coach Alford but he is a guy who was always looking to get out of Iowa. He was at ISU, then left to join Nuehesial in Washington, then came back to ISU when Nuehesial left UW. He is a very good RB coach and recruiter but I do not believe he has ever been an OC before.

I really don't think I trust CPR in bringing in the right OC for being competitive in the Big 12. I hope they go to a consultant or something. I really don't think CPR knows what it takes to win on the offensive side. He lost all credibility
after hiring a horrible OC in Mess, after being in the Big 12 for a while. I hope a lot of people at ISU are involved in this decision and they don't just leave it to CPR.
You just lost all credibility with this post. Congratulations.

I thought he got run off when Mac got fired - Chiz offerd for him to stay and he said no - went to be the RB's coach at Louisville.

There's a very good chance you're right and Mangino won't be the next OC @ ISU but you need to keep in mind that none of us know the whole story. He was fired from KU for abusive behavior and all I've ever seen was he poked a player in the chest and said some not nice things. Obviously not great but that doesn't mean he is a total pos who doesn't care about his players.

Imo he has a different style and way of showing that he cares but I think he would be a good fit with CPR as long as he has learned to be a little more sensitive @ times. He's going to get another chance somewhere and I believe he will make the most of it so why not @ ISU?

Mangino has a long, long history of boorish behavior. Dating back to years and years ago. According to the article cited he has turned over a new leash. And that is great. I still think that Mangino would be a BIG distraction. And the negatives outweigh the positives. Why take a guy with that many negatives?

Schramm has great experience in recruiting and I think that would be a plus as well.

I'm not positive on this, but I seem to recall that Jamie Pollard went through a consulting firm to find Dan mcCarney's replacement.

For the record, Wife of Omaha Cy votes for Mangino. Possibly her most favorite football coach of all time.
And if ISU happened to replace Wally with Ruffin McNeil, I don't think she would ever miss a game.

and then he goes...he goes...."turned over a new leash" lol this, guy.

Not going to get Farley, How about one of his QBs, Pat Grace oc at Heelan, I know this sounds far fetched but he was a hell of a QB at UNI and runs a mean spread. OK flame away.
History says UNI guys are not good for us. Chewy, Mess.....

Yes. He was at ISU with Mac 1997 - 2000 then went to UW for 1 year, then back to ISU until Mac left, then went to Louisville and then to ND.

I posted this in the Auburn/Bama thread last night. I think it would be a good hire.

Dameyune Craig is currently the Co-OC/WR coach for Auburn. I know he doesn't call the plays, but if he's learned anything from Malzahn I would love to promote him to full OC/QBs coach here. He was an NFL QB and coached QBs at FSU.
He's an Auburn alum, so he might not come or might only be a few year rental. Still, might be an option.

I think with the recruits we have coming in plus D'vario Montgomery makes this job more desirable than it's been in the past by quite a big margin. I just hope we get it right.

ECU just went 9-3, if anything ISU should go with Lincoln Riley.....
