I could easily see Sturdy moving to QB coach depending on who the OC is. He has some experience there.
I don't know about the NIU guy. Shouldn't be that hard to move the ball with a QB like Lynch.
Yep. Lynch is a once in a lifetime player for their program.
They've had some good RBs in the past, too, but I'm not sure if he was there when they were popping them out every couple of years.
I'm now against mangino, he wants a HC gig, and we would only resurrect his career. He'd be back coaching against us. The Wyoming coach ran zone read at Mizzou, I'm sick of that.

Disagree...with as fast as the firing came, CPR definitely has been looking around for weeks, and he knows exactly what he wants to do. Id bet we have a new offensive coordinator in a few weeks.
Agree that CPR already has his man in mind for OC and also for the new position coach. It is just a matter of getting who he wants. And you can bet he has already talked to JP about it. They have known that Mess and Pope were going to be fired for a while now. The timing of the SEZ expansion plan and Reiman gift was calculated as well. We need to sell hope and a brighter future once again and we needed a big change in our offense.
Rhoads has said that the entire offense and coaching staff would be looked at. RB group was a major disappointment this year. We had some decent talent. The offense was a major disappointment as well. A FULL season without a TD on an opening drive of a game is inexcusable and means we were pretty well playing from behind the whole season.
Rhoads will get an OC who has a proven track record of putting points on the board. IMO, there is no way that he promotes an OC from within if he can get a really good one and bring him on board. He did that with Messingham and it fell flat on its face. He needs the infusion of a new OC. It is just too big of a hire and promoting from within might give the impression of Deja Vu all over again.

Coach Cole was QB coach under Kill before becoming OC, thus he's coached Lynch all four years and turned him from a 2 star prospect nobody wanted as a QB, except NIU, to a Heisman candidate. Yes, I still believe Bob Cole would be a great hire.
Of course there would be competition for him. I would not want it any other way. Who wants a guy nobody wants?
Mess was making $337,000 per year. Not exactly chump change and supposedly the 3rd highest paid OC in the Big 12. IMO, we can get the right package to lure Schramm away if Rhoads wants him. Big 12 OC is a major upgrade from Fresno State. More money, more prestige, and actually a young group of offensive weapons with a couple of major WR recruits in Montgomery and Lazard that could whet the appetite of a guy like Schramm to come to ISU.
Well said. I think if you look at the youth on offense and some of the legit skill players we have (and are getting), someone like this may, while not making more money maybe, be primed in 2-3 years to be a head coaching candidate if successful in the Big 12.
Exactly. Schramm is 50 years old and has a wealth of experience. He could take the OC job at ISU and if he is a big splash could parlay it into a HC job at a decent school in a few years. He needs to make a move now if he wants to get a better job. The Iowa State OC job is a very desirable job IMO.
