Sterlin Gilbert - Eastern IL, maybe too young yet but keep eye on him. #1 Offense in FCS, 2nd year guy with TX ties. This guy will be asked of by someone this winter IMO.

Oh my god I almost threw up. If the ********* that I used to get in fights with in high school is ISU's OC I will have trouble watching games. And even if I'm trying to be objective I would pray we could do better than that.
Everyone wanting Mangino as our new OC, keep in mind why he was fired at KU in the first place. I agree with another poster on a different thread that hiring him would be counter to Rhoad's philosophy of putting players first. I seriously doubt Mangino will be the team's next OC/QB coach. :no:
As for who I favor, I posted several times on different threads here that I favor Bob Cole, OC/QB coach at Northern Illinois. Considering Coach Cole took Lynch from a nobody to a Heisman candidate speaks volumes about his ability to develop QBs, and running a top ten offense in BCS subdivision also speaks to his game planning and play calling. Coach Cole would be a great hire IMO.

Obviously, Stitt has his fans. And he runs a crazy fast O...and he never punts.
Plus he's from the Midwest, so he at least 'knows' at the weather/climate is like.

I really don't think I trust CPR in bringing in the right OC for being competitive in the Big 12. I hope they go to a consultant or something. I really don't think CPR knows what it takes to win on the offensive side. He lost all credibility
after hiring a horrible OC in Mess, after being in the Big 12 for a while. I hope a lot of people at ISU are involved in this decision and they don't just leave it to CPR.

1-2. You adjusted really well. I won the first game and you won the last two. In all three games, the winner was losing at half.
He's got Klenakis and Sturdy to help him make the decision too, although they might also be being considered. I really don't think he'll strike out this time.
You guys only have video game experience. I have Pee Wee league football coaching experience and an undefeated bunch of 10 year olds. Definitely among Rhoads' finalists.
CPR went with continuity and Mess had done a decent job as a position coach. It didn't work out. I have a feeling CPR learned from that. My two favorites are Schramm first from Fresno State. 50 years old and lots of experience. Plus a prolific offense. Or Dougherty. They also both coach QB's. Plus Schramm was a recruiting co-ordinator and Mess supposedly had a big role in that.
Interesting sidenote is that Schramm was a QB at Cornell College right here in Iowa. IMO, he is a definite possible hire. I would like that one. Fresno State has had a helluva year also. Plus Schramm was at Utah when they had great offenses and also San Diego State.

Really liked the thought of Mangino calling plays @ ISU before but that article has me very excited @ the possibility. I'm very confident that he'll get back to where he was as a coach and would love for us to benefit from his rise up the ranks. There are plenty other options that I would be happy with but Mangino is @ the top of my list.
Really? So you think it would be acceptable for the head coach to not have hiring authority for perhaps the most important assistant coach on the staff? If anyone at ISU in the administration has to intervene to "help" guide CPR find the right OC, then he needs to be fired as he would clearly be incompetent to lead this program. Either he is the head coach or not. If Pollard doesn't trust him with this hire CPR is a dead man walking already and I, for one, can't imagine this to be the case. Your post is ridiculous.

There's a very good chance you're right and Mangino won't be the next OC @ ISU but you need to keep in mind that none of us know the whole story. He was fired from KU for abusive behavior and all I've ever seen was he poked a player in the chest and said some not nice things. Obviously not great but that doesn't mean he is a total pos who doesn't care about his players.
Imo he has a different style and way of showing that he cares but I think he would be a good fit with CPR as long as he has learned to be a little more sensitive @ times. He's going to get another chance somewhere and I believe he will make the most of it so why not @ ISU?
This would be a ballsy hire by CPR, that's for sure. Definite boom or bust potential.
