Extreme benefit of the doubt: Iowa was in the field (well, sorta) — if Hawkies were NIT or lower, and the logo got used by mistake, that'd be atrocious.

Other end of spectrum: Can you imagine that ever happening with North Carolina/N.C. State? Someone would be fired. Perhaps tortured.

y do people always call us the hawkeyes i hate so much, they never call iowa the cyclones

We've lived out of the Midwest for most of our professional careers. Sadly, this is a common occurrence. Wear an ISU item out in public, and be prepared for someone to say, 'so you're a Hawkeye huh?'

Shows just how ignorant/oblivious their graphics dept is about sports. Freakin' artists.

I actually did see somewhere it talked about us beating nc state to reach the sweet 16. I'll have to go digging. I think mistakes happen for other schools but they don't really draw our attention.

Give it a few years and they'll start calling Iowa the Cyclones. It's all about success on the national stage.

Most of the folks on this board don't appreciate the history of the "Tigerhawk" logo.
It actually evolved from a parrot...see the similaiarity? :twitcy:

This doesn't offend me in a "oh they don't even know who we are and we get no respect way."

It's more like "I don't want to be associated with that second-rate, low-class, below-average, pathetic excuse of a Div 1 basketball program."

Okay so... how often does this happen to other schools? Provide me examples... Remember, Iowa at one point had a very highly respected journalism program so there are Hawks all over the place. After a while I honestly think this is being done purposefully by Hawk homers who realize this mistake will drive up page views. There is no way national broadcasters are making these mistakes, most are reading from a screen anyway so the low level screen writer likely puts this on the screen (probably graduated from Iowa back in 1982 and can't get himself above an entry level job) Or it is typical east coast idiocy. Probably both... can you imagine a Hok working in some media department on the east coast, the amount of dumb homer in that room cannot be explained.

When I travel, I find a lot of people (not college sports fans) who refer to us as "Iowa" but what they really mean is "a school in Iowa," sort of like the Michigan coach referring to Ohio State as "Ohio," as if it is just an abbreviated way to refer to us. I try to help them think in terms of a rivalry that they do understand, such as Yankees/Red Sox, Cubs/White Sox, UCLA/USC, Michigan/Ohio State, Alabama/Auburn.

I sometimes like to wear my "Not a Hawkeye / I-State" shirt when traveling, especially through Cedar Rapids.

That's why the network is called "See B.S."

As ignorant as people are about geography, it's lucky that they didn't put a potato next to us, because you know the state of Iowa grows such good mashed potatoes.

Are you accusing me of being a Hawkeye fan? Or are you accusing me of wanting page views?

You don't have to live out of the Midwest for it to happen. It happens in the Twin Cities all of the time. There are delusional big 10 fans who don't even understand that there is more than one Div 1 team in the state of Iowa and this is in an adjoining state. I have taken to explaining it to a lot of people to help them keep from embarrassing themselves but amazingly even after I say "Iowa State Cyclones, not University of Iowa Hawkeyes", some of them still can't seem to get it right.

I don't get mad at this media crap anymore, I just find it extremely sad that the supposed sports experts can't seem to get this simplest of things right.

I lived in the cities for 19 years and there is almost NO coverage of ISU athletics. I don't blame the people because the news/sports reporters are all Big 10 all of the time.

Just remember whenever you're watching the Big Media.., this just illustrates the level of accuracy and detail they have on something so simple, yet we tend to believe every little detail of the stories they feed us 24/7.
