Tymar Sutton said he was told by Campbell that we would be going to a 4-2-5 defense. That would explain the number of DB's that we've been going after.

Wonder who will play along side Harris this upcoming year. Hopefully find a spot for Northrup. Really high on that kid.

Are Harvey and Northrup the same position? Maybe a little too small to play alongside Harris but could possibly fill the nickel position? Jones would seem to have the leg up there. I love Levi and he wasn't Kane Seeley awful, but it would be nice if we had some guys take their spot.

So back to what it was before this year, nothing wrong with that. Will help Tucker and Thomas a lot more playing their natural positions. Dale probably would have broke our sack record if we didn't switch to the 3-4.

I think we might have the pieces to get a reasonable pass rush with 4 lineman. Demond Tucker could have a big year and hoping Jhaustin Thomas sees a big step up after being back on the field for a year.

4-2-5 has always been my favorite defense. I loved watching TCU in the MWC run it and Gary Patterson said he always ran it because it is best equipped to stop the Spread. I liked the 3-4 but in this league you seem to need more DBs not Line backers.

I'm not versed in the technical aspects of football formations but isn't the 4-2-5 essentially the same thing as a "nickel"? Wasn't The "nickel" we use to run called for using a hybrid LB (Levi/Knott) at the nickel spot? Would the 4-2-5 involve using a true CB in that nickel position?

Can't wait to see Tucker up the middle with someone else to take some blocks.

4-2-5 can be both a nickel or "hybrid". People just get too caught up in the smaller LB which is usually more like a 3rd safety, which would be the 5th DB. Levi/Knott played LB, not the "hybrid" spot.

Just curious on what games you were watching? Levi, "not Kane Seeley awful" what? I thought Levi played admirably and deserves to be considered to be playing one of those 2 LB spots in that 4-2-5.

Personally, I like the prospects of Harvey, Harris, Peters, Jones, and Northrup at the two LB spots.

I think the nickel is a 4-2-5 formation, but a 4-2-5 isn't necessarily a nickel. I think the 4-2-5 just becomes a nickel if one of the 5 is a nickel type hybrid LB/CB.

Probably not much room for levi and luke in a 4-2-5.

Kind of what I was thinking sadly. I think Levi is good enough to play, but in that package it will be hard to use him unless we put him at the Nickle and use him in blitz packages.

Disagree. If we are getting gouged in the run game or if the offense we are playing is run heavy, one of the 5 will be a Nickel type player, which Luke fits well. And Levi played to well this year not to be in the rotation.

Harris/Harvey/Petters/Knott among others would be the two LB's

Jones/Northrup would be the 5th/Hybrid DB.

IMO, it just depends on what they are doing/who they are playing. IMO, Northrup is aggressive enough to play behind the likes of Tucker, Aka, and Thomas. He could play LB in a 4-2-5 against a team like Tech.

I don't see where we disagree.

A 4-2-5 is just a 4-4 with the two outside LB's being more hybrid players than your traditional LB. They need to be more of a safety type that can defend pass and run, but especially the pass in the Big XII.

I would like to see Harvey start with Harris at LB and Jones/Northrup as the hybrid safety. But where does that leave Knott and Peters? They will both be seniors and might end up seeing very little playing time. Seeley will be a senior as well but I have never been impressed by him.
