I deactivated my Facebook this week. Today I was told by my sister that my account was now active again but I never reactivated it after it was confirmed it was deactivated.

I tried logging into my account but it asks for me to use dual authentication code which I can’t access because I don’t have the Authenticator app.

All I want to do is log back in and deactivate my account again but I can’t do it. Every step I try it says I have to use dual authentication and there is no Facebook contact info.

Any ideas? I think I’m screwed.

I've done this before as well. The problem is, if you use your Facebook to log into anything (like your Casey's rewards account), the second you sign in, it reactivates your account.

Facebook also sucks at this part to. Somehow the only way Facebook slows to handle this is to get a friend to report the account
As long as someone is on the other end of the account they'll say the account seems fine. They don't care. I'm not even sure what their definition of a compromised account is. Google has a good recovery process for Gmail account recovery though. I mean theirs actually works and after a few days you should be back.

Facebook’s security is absolute garbage. Almost all of the friend requests come from hacked accounts

I’m not familiar with Facebook’s stuff really, ChatGPT says…

You’re not necessarily screwed, but it’s definitely a frustrating situation. Here’s what you can try:

1. Use Backup Codes

• If you ever saved backup codes from Facebook’s two-factor authentication (2FA), you can use one of those to log in.

2. Try SMS Authentication

• If you had your phone number linked, Facebook might offer to send a 2FA code via text instead of using an authenticator app.

3. Check for a Bypass Option

• When logging in, there might be an option like “Need another way to authenticate?†or “Trouble accessing your authentication method?â€â€”click that and follow the prompts.

4. Reset 2FA via Identity Verification

• Go to the Facebook login page and click “Forgot password?â€

• Follow the steps to reset your password.

• Once you get in, Facebook might still ask for 2FA. If you can’t use the authenticator app, look for an option to verify your identity using a government ID.

5. Contact Facebook Support

Facebook doesn’t have a direct helpline, but you can try:

• Facebook’s Help Center (https://www.facebook.com/help/)

• Reporting an issue with Login & Password (https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/)

• If you suspect someone reactivated your account, report it as hacked: https://www.facebook.com/hacked

If you regain access, remove 2FA temporarily, deactivate your account again, and consider fully deleting it if you’re done with Facebook.

Let me know if any of these steps work or if you need more help troubleshooting!

So get the app (it's a Microsoft product that is fairly benign, as far as I can tell).

Assuming we are talking about a TOTP authenticator there are lots of apps that can do that. You don’t have to use one from Microsoft (or Google). You will need the seed (or whatever they call it) that it was originally setup with though.
