Ok, so I need to write a one-page paper on the financial positions of Best Buy and Circuit City on the basis of profitability, solvency, and liquidity...

I've been looking online and can't really come up with what I need... Anyone who can help, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance to everyone!!

They are both public companies right? So they have to file these docs.

Here is a general idea of how Best Buy makes money. Sell you a Monster brand HDMI cable for $80 that costs $2 to make and no better than the $5 one.

Charge you $150 to take the crap off a PC that they sold you.

Try to sell you a $15 warranty on a $30 VCR.

MSN Money Financials -http://moneycentral.msn.com/detail/stock_quote?Symbol=BBY

The MSN site has links to all the important SEC filings (10k) along with all of the important financial statements summarized (balance sheet, cash flows, income statement, stockholder's equity). MSN even has precalculated most of the important financial ratios and compares them to the industry averages. Otherwise, go to each company's website and download the actual SEC filings and do the analysis yourself.

And you fault them for that? If the public is willing to pay those prices for goods and services they offer, then I say more power to Best Buy. Yet another case of good ol' supply and demand working yet again. That and I do believe in the addage that "it is morally wrong to allow suckers to keep their money."

I don't blame Best Buy but don't expect a bailout when your business goes under because of it.

If I hadn't already given mine to another group from last spring, I'd give you mine...

I have a feeling Anne wouldn't be very happy if she knew I gave those girls my project...but they are really cute

How can they still be using circuit city as the example? The company just went bankrupt?

Cuz the textbook went to the printer before that?

Anne Clem gives you a project. You have to pick between two sets of companies (this year = Circuit City/Best Buy or Hasbro/Mattel...last year was Nike/UnderArmour or Kraft/General Mills) and she gives you the financials. You have to calculate a ton of ratios, and write a few things about them. These financials would be based off fiscal year 2008 so that's why they can use it.

iam4iast8: Nice job procrastinating
