Bill Simmons talks about what happened with that.

They needed a sure fire star at 2(obviously failed)to extend their dynasty and Haliburton was deemed too much of a reach even though Kerr loved him. They tried to trade back but no one was giving up a ton of assets for a covid draft when they couldn't conduct player workouts.

Then take him at #2 even if it is a "reach."

Nobody is gonna care you reached if TH was leading the Dubs to the WCF right now.

:)

I even called for it at the time so it wasn't pure hindsight here...

Lol at the Kings. Rewatching takes on their trade. What a terrible organization. Cool arena though.

Both are pretty bad moves. Trading Tyrese was worse IMO, but using the 4th pick on a one trick pony was pretty dumb. Who runs the Kings anyway?
Murray is a solid 3 &d guy you can start for a playoff caliber team. He was always a high floor guy.

Trading Haliburton who everyone in NBA circles loved and is 1 of probably 5 PGs in the whole world who can truly run an NBA offense for a high usage big man who can’t spread the floor is criminal.

The 4th pick though? But yeah trading Haliburton was worse. Point is the Kings are idiots.

Keegan is not a "bust" even at #4, but looking at the draft there are 5-6 players taken after him who are clearly bigger difference makers. It's a very deep draft but without a ton of superstars.

He rebounds effortlessly and is a great shooter but athletically he's not a star in the NBA the way he was in NCAA. The game seems to move slightly too fast for him at this level even though he's still a good player.
