My conference tidbit

That would be the ideal scenario. Legends and Leaders:rolleyes: could dissappear and the logical East and West divisions would form. The B10 would pick up the entire Midwest and maintain their "Academic Integrity". (with the exception of maybe K-State)

And Nebraska...

Let me preface this with saying I know nothing about whats going on behind the scenes, but it seems that ISU/KSU/KU have been silent during this whole ordeal. Plus, I haven't heard the B1G talk about it much at all. Maybe there IS something there behind the scenes. My respect level would go way up for the B1G if they were the first conference to realize not everything is about money and tv sets.

I hope something does transpire soon. I actually had difficulty enjoying tailgating last Sat wondering about all of the negative possibilities.

Exactly, it's starting to ruin Iowa week as well. The Iowa Iowa State game just seems so miniscule now compared to the future of ISU Athletics.

Hmmmm. So in this scenario, No smoke = fiery inferno of hell. I wish I knew this strategy back when that super hot girl in college was ignoring me.

They have a thirst for the East Coast much like a vampire has a thirst for your blood. They do not want more Midwest - they already think they have it all

I agree, which is why this is likely a pipe dream but when a conference fallout is upon us, dreaming is about all fans can do.

The only saving grace perhaps, is that the Big 10 has always been a "Midwest" conference. The identity, locations of schools, quality of public academics, etc. have been and always will be rooted in the Midwest.

When looking at a map, Maryland, Virginia, Syracuse, & UConn are all far outliers.

It almost makes too much sense to add the former Big 12 N as the final 4 pieces. Retention of natural rivalries (between the 4) with Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois and potential for new local games with Minnesota and Wisconsin would be unreal.

In a sense it would be about money - if NCAA schools were to lose their tax-exempt status, that would be a gigantic financial loss to many universities. Yeah, the universitis themselves wouldn't necessarily be paying taxes on gate receipts and TV contracts - they would just hide that money in the general fund. Where they would get hit big time is in donations. Losing tax-exempt status means that donors will no longer be able to claim donations to ADs on their annual income taxes. That could potentially be a much bigger hit to income than having to split the TV revenue pie amongst a few more members.

I'm not saying I'm convinced ISU is now heading to the B1G, but the fact that Iowa's politicians are getting involved, and they claim that ISU is going to be just fine when this is all done, that just strikes me as interesting.

Does " more than alright" mean a better situation than we're in with a stable B12 financially speaking? If so, I don't see how that's possible in the Big East. Also, I would expect Harkin to be more of an ally in this than Grassley. Not doubting your story, but I fail too see how most of these people could possibly have any idea how this is going to end for us.

Grassley and Harkin in ISUs press box is huge + a special meeting on a holiday?! = serious business. You can't tell me that a call to a conference commish from Grassley wouldn't "nudge things" in our favor.

Not trying to say anything bad about the OP but is it confirmed anywhere that both harkin and grassley were at our game saturday? With all that is going on seems like that would get some press.

Regardless of what your political beliefs are you gotta admit that Iowa is in a damn good spot with our senators. Harkin and Grassley both carry quite a bit of clout. We're in as good a spot as any state there.

I know Grassley was there.

I think it's at least as credible as anything else posted here. And imo, it's finally nice to hear something that doesn't involve the demise of ISU athletics.

Better than alright would mean a greater Big 12 or even better an invite to Big 10. Like others I can't see the Big East as better than alright.

No offense but what else is he going to say? "Sorry, but we're completely ****ed."

Unless, Harkin and Grassley threaten to withhold farm subsidies from Big 10 states I don't think there is much they can do to ensure that ISU finds a good home.

I think a lot of us and rightfully so have the "Chicken Little Syndrome or The Sky is Falling", when it comes to things like this. I appreciate the Op bringing this information to the board as that's what makes the board great. So lets not bash the op for bringing us very credible info that they might not like to share if they continue to get bashed.

Not only that, but it gives me a little more comfort knowing JP and the gang aren't just sitting back letting others call the shots. We need to be looking out for number one as nobody else is going to care if we are the odd man out. It's a dog eat dog world and ISU is wearing milk bone underwear.

Of all the possible changes that could be made, what could be "good" for ISU? Going to the Big East is not a better option and going to the Big Ten is not going to happen. Only change that could be considered good out of this scenario is the Big 12 staying together while adding more teams and ISU continuing to take a share of that pie.
