They mention Hollywood at the end of the story. I scares me to think what they would come up with being that there just doesn't seem to be enough information to fill 90-100 minutes.

You don't need facts for 100 minutes of a movie you just need this phrase:

"Inspired by true events" ta da!!! Major motion picture! :)

Can't tell you how fired up I get when I see Jack's story being shared by even more people! Be sure to catch the ultra-rare picture of Jack as a kid at 2:04 in the video! In addition to my own work featured, here are some further relevant links about the other people involved:

John Rosengren is the author of the SBNation feature piece as seen here:

Steve Jones is the father of a CF member and his book is at the ISU Bookstore among many other choices. Don't be dissuaded by the elementary reading level, there's a lot of good research in it that isn't found elsewhere:

Bob Patrin is a Minnesota historian who also owns the original Floyd of Rosedale trophy. A fascinating story about it here:

Tom Kroeschell also did the Cyclones.TV documentary on Jack:

The more people telling his story, the better! There's more exciting stuff about Jack coming out in the future...

Great links. Thanks Josh. However, you left one really good site off your list:

This is my "go to" site for info on Jack Trice.

I don't know, I think it could work. I think his early life is interesting. His mom moving him to Cleveland. A coach wanting him to come to Iowa state. Plus I think the fight to name the stadium after him is interesting--although not that flattering to Iowa state.

Minor quibble, I don't think the stadium naming is that unflattering to tell the truth. It gets spun in a way today that I think is a little unfair to how things played out. Prior to the plaque in old State Gym being noticed and the resulting story being resurrected in the 1970's, Jack Trice was barely known to students, staff or alumni. True, the students and others wanted the stadium named after him and over a period of 10 years got the field named, the statue erected, and the plaque moved and updated. The story spread and resonated with more people (not just students) and eventually the stadium itself was renamed 20 years ago. The story was there but just the story didn't make for instant legacy, that needed to be established (and it was). This was not some legacy that had been lost, it really never existed until the 1970's. Students always want more say and to get their way but there are 240,000 alumni "stakeholders" and once there was overwhelming support the named changed. BTW, I was still at ISU as a student then and saw the old plaque at the State Gym before any of this was a "story".

There are some pretty awesome treasures at Special Collections in Parks Library. The original Jack Trice letter for one. Glad someone was wise enough to preserve that.

Then you fill those minutes with artistic license. Do you think "Remember the Titans" is a 100% accurate depiction of what actually happened? A Hollywood blockbuster about Jack Trice (if done correctly) could do more for Iowa State than any bowl game or tournament victory ever has.

It's a story that needs to be told. Starting with educating ignorant tavern haks who have no idea. Trust me, I've met them. Who's working on the screenplay?
It doesn't mean I'm against it. It's just that "artistic license" is another way of saying we can make up anything we want. I would hate to see some contrived drama thrown into an important story like this.

But it did happen, not as soon or as easily as it should have , but it got done.

Wow!!!! I thought he was probably some old guy who gave millions to the University. Thanks for the story!
As they stated in the piece, very few people outside of the state of Iowa know about this story. But it's a story we are all willing to. I remember thinking it was strange that there wasn't more recognition nationally for the stadium, when I first came in, because it was the only stadium named after an african-american. Happy to see other people taking interest!

At first I thought you were funning us, but then realized you were serious. His story is so ingrained in our psyche it seems weird when others don't know the story. I think you're slowly appreciating ISU for ISU as well as for hiring coach Campbell. Welcome aboard. Again!

Sadly it goes with Hollywood. I was disappointed with artistic license in the Buddy Holly Story. But it gets the overall name and story out there, so I think it would be super.

(Not directed at you GR8) but also part of the 95-120 minutes could include the romantic story. Didn't he get married not too long before he died? Thinking she was also very young. Easy 10 minutes of Hollywood - insert romantic angle here. Grieving widow, etc.

Seriously, check out the link to Josh Kagavi's site. It has some of the most fascinating info about Jack Trice. Great research and very interesting writing style.

Not yet interested? Jack Trice came from East Tech HS in Cleveland and grew up in Hiram, OH. Jack Trice's coach returned to Columbus and became the first of two (so far) coaches to leave Iowa State to become Ohio State head coaches.

Now I know you are interested.

Right. But it is an intersting part of the story. 20 years worth of students fought for it.

Nope, had no idea. Not surprised that an Ohioan has his name on the stadium. We rule! Just kidding. No, this is a very interesting story that needs to made into a movie. Thanks again for warm welcome.

It is interesting to note that Sam Willaman (Jack's HS and ISU coach), Earle Bruce, Jack Trice, and Matt Campbell's hometowns are all within fifty miles of each other.

My book mentioned in this thread, Football's Fallen Hero--The Jack Trice Story, is elementary because that is the audience. It is a "hi-lo" book, hi interest and low vocabulary for young or reluctant readers. The original manuscript was longer, but the editors asked me to cut it for younger readers. The book is several years old but still sells.
