I celebrated mother's day last weekend since I was home and wouldn't be coming home this weekend. I took my mother to the greenhouse and pretty much let her pick out what ever she wanted. I also helped her plant them yesterday.

For my mother-in-law--wine glass markers and a bottle of wine (I have a friend who makes custom wine glass markers and beer bottle markers, including ISU ones).

For my Mom--probably an iTunes gift card. They have an iPad and don't have much on it. They are traveling overseas in June and I thought she cold put some books on there.

For me--I have plenty of ideas, but my husband has already said he has nothing yet. I've offered to get myself something, that way I know I'll like/use it. ;)

Gift card for a spa/haircut/manicure, outdoor plants, iPod, anything to do with interests she has (cookbook if she likes to cook).

Let me just say how much my husband hates Mother's Day. You have Christmas, then 2 months later my birthday, then 2 months later Mother's Day. He hates all the pressure. And he has Father's Day near his birthday (2 years ago it was the same day) almost exactly 6 mom after Christmas. But last year he did good, he got me an iPad.

Sometimes it is hard to find something for my mother. So this year I will give her a variety of choices. Cope Long Cut, Swedish Snus, and Skoal X-tra Pouches.

I would like to think I am covering all my bases.

For my MIL on a fixed income we send out gift cards for movie tickets and a local restaurant.

For my mom who is bedridden I will call her local Cash Wise foods directly and have a plant/planter sent out.

For me, I think it's the one holiday you can get a practical gift for your wife like patio furniture or a car wash membership. If she has been coveting a stand mixer or a food processor you can do something like that. My husband will be getting me a box of chocolates from Betty Janes that he hand selects himself and probably a tree for the front yard. If she's not into practical DO NOT get an appliance.
