And, at $600k or so salary, he did not charge as much as a Bobby Knight either. He is definitely a good deal, it was the one million plus ($1.3M) that was more difficult to pay. He helped/allowed his assistant to get the UNI job and he did not raid the UNI recruits. That was nice.

Anyone know how much Steve Alford is making? We can check the bang for the buck after next season.

If WM was getting $600k per season, that was about $40k a win last year.
[/b][/quote]
And what is your point? Next year Mcd will be at like 60k a win. a few years ago larry was making a million and won 12, so that is like 80k a win.
To the person who said we are lucky to have gmac, we are... lucky like my dog was to have cancer.

LOL i hate them. Always have always will. you have caught me, god job. I, unlike most of you, am not happy with ISU being mediocre in all sports. That means I hate them. My wanting ISU to do well is a sign of my not being a fan. I cannot wait to pack up my car and drive to Shrevepoort again, what fun that was. At least they had a binions there. How about Boise, that was fun too. Just because I would rather spend Jan3 in florida or tempe, and would rather spend march watching basketball, I am not a fan. Mcd drains the team of talent, now i am told give him x years and we will have a winning season again. yes, wait and mcc will actually run a proper d at the end of a game and I can go to kc, and wait and mcd will have us in the nit in no time, awesome. At least we will all be able to watch KU, KSU, aTm, baylor, tx, ok, okst, and mizzu play when it counts, at least i have that.

You caught me (it seems to be happening alot today) all i do is cut and paste. If we don't talk about stuff, then what is the purpose of a message board? I guess we could all just find one point agree on it and never talk again, like if we would have hired mizzu's new coach, then we could all agree he was great, and all go our seperate ways.

Maybe you could explain to us the over the top personal dislike you have for Greg McDermott. All he has done at every coaching stop he's made is turn program around and elevate them beyond where they ever were. Is it because he's from Cascade, Iowa? White? UNI Grad?Grew up on a farm? What has Greg McDermott ever done to not warrant a chance to coach ISU?

actually UNI never got to a level they were at before, much less passed it. Uni actually has won a few tourney games in the past. He has never won a conference title, wayne, larry, floyd, and orr had all at least done that and most multiple times. He has no ties to anything outside the midwest, feels he can recruit here and be great, and is a completely boring speaker(witness the "rally" at his hiring). He was the result of a "nation wide" search that never went further than a 6 hour drive, and has never recruited an elephant. He appears to be the result of an AD who's philosophy is that it is more important for us to buy a stupid scoreboard, than to spend the money it takes to get a big name coach here to bring excitement. Just to let you know that I am not alone, recently espn had an article about all of the new coaches and how they will improve thier schools. They focused a lot on huggy at ksu, and then talked about 12 or so schools and how thier big new hire would fit in. ISU wasn't even on the list.

Is the purpose of the message board for you to go to every thread you can and post the exact same negativity a 1,000 times over. Is that all your going to do until Gmac either proves you wrong or right next season. I am not satisfied with status quo with either MBB or FB. I have even agreed with you on some of your opinions. But HOW can you form such an ugly, totally negative, the earth is coming to an end opinion of where our BB program is going. People get promoted when they do well, so why are you so SURE that Gmac is going to fall on his face because he coached in the Missouri Valley last season. How can you be so sure that just because his style of play may get us to 100 points every game means you are going to boo him and be bored. I am not sure if you are close to the players who have left or what but did you expect all of them to come back when they are used to no discipline?????? I am not saying you should be so strict as to say absolutely no swearing, but doesn't it look bad for Taggert to quit using that as one of his deciding factors to "get out of Ames"???? Are these your buddies so your taking offense too?????? I am trying to figure out how someone could form such a cynical opinion less then 3 months into it. THEN, I go look at the other threads and you are saying the same thing on all those threads as well. It is not that we don't respect your negative opinion about ISU FB and MBB, it's just that you are CONSTANTLY jamming in down our throats on every thread you can get too, and then jumping all over us when we tell you to relax until he proves himself after he starts his first season, but now I probably set myself up for you to jump on me again.

The purpose is for me to question how we will ever be better than anyteam in our division other than colorado, and maybe in a few years nebraska. All of the new coaches in the 12 were available, and we interviewed exactly one of them, the lowest paid, and least national of them. Wayne had no discipline? is that because he allowed adults to swear, or what are you basing that on? We had a better d 2 years ago than mcd has ever had, but we still put up points. You can be a boring interview (morgan was) if you push the tempo on the court, but you can not be a boring person and a boring coach, that just bores people.

You don't know anything about UNI discombobulated. They won ONE tourney game in ONE total appearance in their history prior to GMac on a prayer three pointer by Maurice Newby over Missouri in 1990. They didn't win some tourney games they won ONE in ONE appearance. GMac took them there three years running. That is new heights and even someone of your limited intellectual abilities should be able to figure that out. The rest of your post is just noise typed for the benefit of your poor ego that was apparently damaged by Pollard not hiring a "big name coach". let me clue you in on something, KSU's first choice was Greg McDermott. They offered him a contract and he told them no. he was also offered contracts by Ole Miss and Arizona State. GMac is one of THEE up and coming coaches in the nation and even though our AD was on his way to work out a deal with Rob Jeter he couldn't not hire Greg McDermott because of how good GMac is. GMac called US because he wanted to be a Cyclone and he fully intends to raise the bar here like he has every place else. We have a very, very good coach and person running the show in Hilton Coliseum and you(and others) should cut him some slack especially considering you obviously don't know anything about anything. Winning brings excitement and there will be plenty of that.

Wayne allowed players to answer cell phones during practice and over saw several shoving matches including at least one between a coach and player. Wayne wasn't in control of ****. You're whole stupid argument is based on "not pushing tempo" when GMac has already told recruits we're going to play more uptempo. You got nothin but hot air.

how does that prove anything? how does that say that he didn't have tough practices. Last I checked, you can still work hard and not only be working. Wait, a coach told a recruit something that they want to hear? well it must be true then. More uptempo = only 6 games in the 50's next year.

I don't think Wayne had discipline. I base that off the way Stinson behaved around the officials when a call went against him. He might have been slightly justified on a few of them but when I played BB(not very high level), it was the coaches job to work the officials, not mine and I got in trouble when I did talk. I also base it on WB and CS hammering on the bigs who were not playing hard enough defense to the media. Again a no-no I feel. I watched the game before their media comments and I saw it a little differently. CS and WB were not playing too tough a defense themselves and so the G would drive by them on their way to a layup forcing the bigs to cover them so they wouldn't lay up allowing a dish to opposing teams bigs resulting in dunks on us. I saw it in game timeout huddles, when Morgan would be talking and one of the players would interupt and be obviously running one of the players down (no I don't think it was trying to motivate them). That is the stuff I saw during the games. I loved watching CS and WB play despite the discipline issues but I also think they were gone before Morgan was gone (even though it has been argued time and again that wasn't the case). If that is what I saw, that is a pretty small percentage of the rest of the times in practice and off the court and from some of the posts here and CR, people who say they were close to the BB team said practice was not led as to show the coach as the leader as well. Again all opinions

The whole slower tempo argument??? I don't know if he was forced to go that route because of the type of players he had or what, but he has said he wants to play an uptempo game and I hope he produces. I have also seen UNI play some games last year and from what I saw, I do not think he is a boring coach either.

Wow, discom, you're really struggling. So it's ok to answer cell phones when you're supposed to be preparing to play Kansas? It's ok for players to be shoving coaches? I also liked your comment about swearing. Your idol, Tim Floyd, and Larry Eustachy ironically enough, both had no swearing rules for players. So who is not the same in the following group Tim Floyd, Larry Eustachy, Wayne Morgan & Greg McDermott. C'mon on, I know you can get it.
