I realize that the Register won't please everyone with their coverage... but I have to say... most posters on CF seem excessively harsh on the DM Reg.

That paper hasn't been worth a crap since the early 90's and I won't even take a free one if I need to fill up my vehicle with gas at Kum n Go. If you are a conservative who grew up in Agriculture and still enjoy it today, then that paper isn't worth being butt wad.

I haven't read that worthless paper for 4-5 yrs now and don't plan on starting again.......

I'm kinda blown away by the hate ... I have to search long and hard for a Register over here in Cedar Rapids Gazette land. I prefer the Register.

writing **** about Iowa State sports every chance you can get and always looking for dirt in classless.

Well, unfortunatley they didn't have to look to far to find it did they?

It's not classless it is the news business.

I think the paper has declined considerable over the past ten to fifteen years. It used to be a must read and now it is trivial.

It is fast becoming the "juice(d) DMR.

Soon the Chicago Tribune, Omaha, or KC paper will be the dominant paper in Des Moines.

Has anyone told the Rag that the DM metro area is actually growing in population?

I wouldn't count on that either. I don't know about Chicago or Omaha, but the KC Star has had a couple rounds of layoffs already this year and seems to be suffering from declining subs. It also seems like it isn't liked down here much better than the Rag in DSM.

I think it is just a sign of the times. I'm not sure what newspapers out there aren't struggling.
