Wolves got Sprewell and Cassell to sign back in the day. If the opportunity to win is there then you can attract talent

Sounds like Minnesota was pushing the dual President/Head Coach role and not the other way around. That makes me like the deal more, I'd be a little weary if that was something Thibs demanded but after what happened in Chicago there's no way he would turn that down if it was offered to him.

Don't like this move at all. Why would you let make personnel decisions? He wanted Marquis Teague over Draymond Green for crying out loud.
Also think he is overrated.

Well to be honest he was I believe the 35th pick in that draft so what does that tell you?

Agreed. If the right situation comes together any team can sign free agents. Cleveland, Detroit, San Antonio, Utah, Indiana, Phoenix, Minnesota, etc have all had stretches in the last 30 years that made them attractive landing spots even though they aren't considered marquee markets. Obviously Cleveland and San Antonio currently are due to playing with a future hall of famer but regardless it landed free agents. Time will tell if the Twolves can become that again in the next couple of years. Based on what Thibs did with the Bulls there is no reason to doubt he can do it. Throw in that some of the better teams in the West are due for a slide soon due to age and free agency they look to be sitting in a good spot.

Due to Chad Ford's report that Minny has made the 5 overall pick available in a potential Butler trade...

Chicago is rumored to want a lottery pick and a frontline starter to even listen to a Butler trade. Feel free to speculate but other than Towns and Wiggins (who are untouchable imo) I am not sure who could entice the Bulls enough to trade a potential multi year All-Star who is on a good contract for years. Obvious great fit with the T-wolves led by Thibs and the age of the roster if they can get a 3rd team involved.

From everything I have heard, Bulls want Wiggins and the 5th pick. Wolves are willing to do 5th pick and LaVine. Nothing will probably happen being pretty far off.

I'd take Jimmy Butler with Thibs over Buddy Hield or Jamal Murray 10 times out of 10

You have to take the proven player in that case so I agree. But how hefty of a price will he be is the main question. No way they can give up Wiggins or Towns.

Agreed. There is no way Thibs would do that either, I dont think. But is Lavine worth it? Could we bring another team into the fold? It'll certainly be interesting. But If I had to guess, I think nothing happens and the T-Wolves end up drafting at the 5 spot. At most, trade down and grab a pick in a draft in the future.

If I were the Bulls I'd trade Butler for the #5 pick in a heart beat.

Gives Bulls the chance to pick up a solid PG or SG while possibly getting Hassan Whiteside and a solid SF.

Knowing the Timberwolves, they will probably trade Wiggins and Towns for 5 mediocre point guards.

If I were a Bulls fan (which I am a fan of their coach) I would be happy with trading Butler for the #5 pick and Zach Lavine. Obviously getting Towns or Wiggins would be better but Lavine would be enough.

Butler is worth way more than the #5 pick (total unknown) and Lavine (backup combo guard)...
Jimmy is a young 2 time all-star, make the last 3 All-NBA defensive teams and already has the Most Improved Player Award and entering his prime at 26. He has average 20 pts and 5 Rebs the past two seasons.
Just as important Butler just signed a new deal last year (5/95 mil), 19 million per year for any starter let a lone on with his resume is going to be a steal moving forward with the Salary Cap is jumping this year.

Not slamming Butler but really don't know why the Wolves would want him paired with Wiggins and Towns. doesn't seem like a good fit. Butler made it known he wanted to be the alpha dog in Chicago and wanted the offense ran through him. They need a good PG more than Butler. If I was the wolves I would trade Rubio and get what you can for him and draft Dunn. He is the best PG in the draft and a great defender and distributor. Wiggins has the potential to a better Butler so you aren't going to trade Wiggins for him. This may be coming from the Wolves letting teams know they are willing to trade the #5 pick and are just trying to see what they can get.
