Millipedes?

This morning I found about 10 millipedes crawling on our carpet. I have never seen them before in the house. The house is only 1 year old. I've read that millipedes can come into the house during wet weather. However, I think my house is really well sealed and I don't really even see how they could get in. Anyone else seeing these? Any suggestions on how to find where they are coming from? I'm thinking about calling a professional. I hate bugs.

I don't think there is such a thing as house that's sealed well enough to keep all bugs out. Be thankful you only have millipedes and not these things:

I don't mind most bugs in my house, but I hate house centipedes.

What are those things? I have seen one of those once.

BTW, how ironic, I am listening to the 80s on 8 on xm, and the song centipede by Rebbie Jackson just came on.

I killed one in the back entryway yesterday. Those things creep me out. Flip on the light at night and see one of those things crawling on the wall next to your head...shivers.:skeptical:

What is that? I had something that looked just like that screaming across my living room floor last night. I squished it but it scared the crap out of me when I first saw it, damn thing was fast!

I call those "foot spiders" - we used to get them in our old apartment. They are the grossest bugs ever.

I've used Orkin before, they did a nice job of getting rid of the creepy crawlies.

I read somewhere that the extermely high water table is forcing the bugs up and out of the ground.

There isn't a house in the world that can keep all the bugs out.

When I was doing my internship in Rochester, MN, I went to take a shower one morning and apparently one of these was on my shower curtain. When I closed the curtain it fell on me. Freaked me out, and I've hated them ever since.

Our problem this year is Ants. We get a few every year, but this year they are particularly bad.

House Centipede | Iowa Insect Information Notes

That's a house centipede. Those things look nasty, but they're harmless. They eat the other bugs that sneak into your house, and they live in all the hard to reach crevices around a house. I used to live in a house with quite a few of them. I might find 1-2 of them a night. I got used to seeing them, but I still hate them.

Ortho Home Defense works great for a do-it-yourself kind of bug spray. We spray nearly once a week, and keep finding dead bugs in the basement afterwards.

Man, why did you have to post that house centipede picture. I'll have dreams for sure. I hate those things. I haven't seen any of those yet. I hate spiders too. The milipedes really don't gross me out too much other than I just don't like finding them when I thought this house was really really tight. I sealed everything I could find on this place and it rated as high as possible on the energy star tests that test tightness.

Is this Ortho used inside the home? What about pets and kids?

In CO, we used to get earwigs:

I always was freaked out by them. They have little pincers on their butts. We also had black widow spiders outside of the house. I bet I killed 10 black widows in the 4 years we were there. I eventually had a company spray for them.

We have ants this year as well. Two types, little tiny ones and big black ones. I have done some spraying outside and we have the little traps inside. It has helped some but I have to get backoutside and spray again since the rain this weekend. My wife left the sliding door open maybe 1/8 inch and 6-7 cam screaming in last evening. I hate having to deal with all this bug killer crap with curious toddlers bumping about.

I'm also afraid that the wasp nest in front of the house is active again. Luckily the big fuzzy spiders of the last two summers havent shown up yet this year... I hate crawlies...

We had a HUGE ant infestation outside our CO house too. I never saw ants inside but under the concrete around the drive, they had hallowed out a cavern. I think the spray guy called them pavement ants. They were really small but extremely numerous. He put down a spray that killed EVERYTHING. Amazing stuff. He said it was designed for termites but works for ants as well.
