Hoping someone can recommend a lake/cabin place for some relaxation, a bit of fishing, and with our 2 labs some dog swimming. Minnesota seems to be the most numerous options, anyone take their dog on a vaca and have some personal experience?

No kids, just my wife and myself, dogs are the kids for now.

they boundary waters would be an excellent choice. If you go to Itaska Park (Mississippi Start) its very popular with kids wading and also dogs swimming. Great time, have been there twice. While we do not stay at this park, there are plenty of solid lakes around that area.

I agree...and couple it with the north shore and it's awesome.

might check with Trail Center up the trail from Grand Marais. They have 2 cabins on Poplar lake that i believe are dog friendly..

Ames has a new dog park that my tax dollars pay for. I'm sure your dogs would love to chill there for a while. Then you could throw stick into Lake Laverne for the dogs to chase after. You could swim too but I hear the beach isn't that great. Make sure you bring worms instead of night crawlers. The night crawlers would likely scare the gold fish and you might not catch enough for dinner.

I'm not sure if the new park at Lake Rathbun allows dogs, but closer if you are in Iowa and supposedly able to catch walleye there. They say walleye fishing better in July there for some reason.
