I hate to side with Mediacom on anything (freakin' monopoly), but they're right in this situation. Sinclair is trying to force their junk channels on Mediacom while Mediacom only wants the decent channels. Sinclair wants to up their viewership, and Mediacom has a LARGE chunk of the market, and Sinclair wants to be able to increase their ad revenue.

Screw Sinclair.

I've already sent an email to mediacom about this.

There was something similiar with Comedy Central and Dish Network a few years back and it got resolved.

I'm guessing this is a contractual game of chicken and it will not actually happen.

Just another reason to get Direct TV. I must admit, it would be nice to have the mediacom connections channel 22 though.

Channel 22 is a main reason I have mediacom and I am a Cardinals fan, and they have almost all of their games on FSN channel 40.

Oh, and they don't blackout some games that are on ESPN or ESPN2. Its real annoying when you can't watch Sunday or Monday night Baseball because its blocked out.

Yeah, we're DirecTV people but are forced to have Mediacom temporarily - moved into an apartment after selling our house - waiting for the new one to be finished. That won't be until the end of January or early February.

Hopefully this gets resolved so I don't miss my NFL games! :angry6wn:

The good ol' rabbit ears are great for my HD tv, I have mediacom, but get FOX HD on antenna, I guess i'll have to watch all fox on antenna, unless they get it figured out. I'm guessing they'll get it resolved though.

The same goes for KGAN CBS 2 in Cedar Rapids, they are owned by the same company...

I switched away from Mediacom and got DISH Network and have never been happier. We really need 2 cable companies in Des Moines to drive the prices down. I get 180 channels, DVR, and 4 rooms on the Dish for $70 a month where Mediacom was charging me like $55 for just basic extended and would be over $100 a month if I got the DVR and digital cable. Plus I heard they just jacked up their rates again. I had internet with them too, switched to Qwest DSL and pay about $31 month for my 1st year with the deal I got. Saving a lot of money by getting away from that monopoly. Mediacom has crap service and their cable is about as reliable as a dish as far as receptions issues go so that is a wash. My cable was out about as much as my dish loses signal for just a few minutes but at least when I lose signal on the dish its storming where it can be a perfect day and my Mediacom would be out for 1/2 the day.

I have had a great experience with Mediacom. I hope they get everything figured out. I don't know what plan they had you on for your cable, but my total Mediacom bill is $116 a month. That includes Digital Cable with Starz Encore Hbo on 4 televisions. High Speed Internet. Local Phone service. Unlimited Long distance. And I have never lost service with them once.

So let me get this straight...there is a good possibility that I will lose the ability to watch Bears games after Dec. 1st?

That alone will make me cancel Mediacom and go with something else.

Rocco (yes that's really his name) the CEO of Mediacom has publicly said that he is drawing a line in the sand on this one. I have done this type of negotiations for a cable company that competes with mediacom before and it's pretty nasty. Ten years ago I ran into it with KCRG. They were ready to turn off the signal before the season finales of a sweeps week. We reached a last minute deal but it wasn't good. That was just over the whether the cable company should have to pay to retransmit the broadcast channel, and if so how much. This one is different and absolutely ridiculous that Sinclair can package those crappy channels with the good ones. I have Mediacom, hate them religiously, but we have too many tv's to have a dish and pay for each box. Regardless I think Mediacom is right in this case. We'll see if they are truly drawing a line in the sand. Interesting to note that Sinclair is offering $150 rebates to anyone who switches to Direct TV right now.

There's really nothing that's faster than Mediacom broadband internet in Cedar Rapids. That's enough for me to keep forking them cash for internet and digital cable.

What a bunch of corporate horsecrap! Once again the consumer gets the shaft! Rocco needs to get the checkbook out as we all know they can afford it.

Be careful what you wish for...When Rocco gets out the checkbook, that means YOU get out the checkbook because you will see that cost in a rate increase.

What plan is that and why wasn't it offered to me when I told them I was dropping them? I was paying $125/month for Digital Bronze on 1 TV and 5 Mbps internet. All they offered was a $10/month discount. I rarely had outages with the TV, but the internet service was down occasionally for half a day to a day at a time.

I got Digital 2 star (Showtime & Starz) cable and Internet for $50 per month for 6 months. I'm in the last month of that deal and am scared to see what it will increase too.

Maybe this is my indication to switch.

Mediacom flats out sux. I used to work for Rocco and that monopoly. If all cities had what awesome service and prices like Cedar Falls. Cedar Falls Utilities cant be beat and has services that big towns could only wish for.
