Matt Campbell postgame quote

$5 million a year.

Content with bowl games as long as they understand everyone is giving their best.

Great attendance related to population density of state.

Great facilities on a gorgeous campus.

Very few hostile media to deal with.

Elite conference teams are not nearly unbeatable like SEC and Big10.
Matt Campbell is arguably the most successful coach we've ever had, he's been to a bowl game every year except for his first, and you want him gone. How is that a good or easy job? What exactly do you want from the next coach?

Just remember you have no idea what emails and messages the kicker got after the Kansas game.
Just remember that, for certain, the Iowa State FANBASE did not “fry” a freshman kicker nor is it remotely acceptable to (unprovoked) deflect blame of these 3 losses by antagonizing the most supportive fanbase in college athletics.

What an epically stupid comment from our head coach, which should not sit well with any of us.

I just listened to the whole presser. Honestly not as bad as this is being made out to be. The more concerning is what he says during the whole answer that has this fanbase part in it.

In summary he said he believes the issues with the offense are around consistency like false starts and young players not doing the consistent thing to win. He says the staff is great and they will continue to grow.

He refuses to acknowledge the offensive staff, putting all the blame on himself at one point. The point is, if you are comfortable saying your players need to be more consistent and clean things up to get to the next level, then you need to have the stones to say, “Our offensive staff needs to also be more consistent and get a lot better. In fact that’s the biggest area we can improve on to put these kids in a position to be successful.”

Now that we can agree on. If he can't handle even this little bit of pressure from a fanbase who's been great to him for 7 years he's going somewhere else. But if he's that thin skinned over all this then he's not gonna do any better there
If he landed the job at Notre Dame, he would have found out what a rough fanbase does to you if he had the start Marcus Freeman has had there.

Good thing is, either the offense gets better and it turns out fine, or it does not and he has to make sone moves.

No OC can survive this kind of performance, other than Brian fermentz.
Manning played with Campbell at Mt. Union, right? I'd rather not go into this off-season hoping it was bad enough for Campbell to let him go.

Should have encouraged him to take any HC offer he had before this because he's just not good at this. Quote me all the cumulative stats from seasons he had ELITE college talent all you want, having a super-elite talent like Breece accompanied by an NFL roster caliber QB and multiple NFL TEs makes even the worst scheme effective enough at the college level.

Eh…it’s one comment in a press conference after a loss. I don’t think we should be so sensitive as to let it bother us. If it turns into a habit of his to blame the fans, then fine…but this feels like a move on and forget it moment. Too many people try to make news out of nothing.

Why not? He’s sticking up for his team. He said something stupid. He’s never said anything like this. It’s a stupid mistake.

Again, I think we all can maybe just assume it was a mistake.

Anyone wanting Campbell's head is an idiot.

It was still a very bad decision by Campbell to go after the fanbase after his buddy who's been obviously in over his head for years yet again failed.

As long as it doesn't happen again, I'm fine with it. As long as the conversations within the program are about moving on from an obviously not qualified OC, its fine.

It cannot become a pattern though.

Guys, if you didn't trash our kicker after the last game, he's not talking about you. I get the feeling that the comment is hitting a little close to home for some.
CMC is a cerebral guy and it probably just came out of frustration/wrong.

Hell I still remember after ND ate our lunch he said "a handful of plays cost us the game."
I was like, WTF game were you watching? LOL

No.

We get it.

He's mad because he knows the Fire Manning thread was out there.

And is only going to get more attention now.

He couldn't defend Tom directly, so he, once again, sent his freshman kicker out there.

Deflection and projection.

This was him taking a shot at us, telling us to back off his best friend.

Shows that Manning is firmly entrenched in the ISU football coaching family.

A lot of you sound like you're stuck in an abusive relationship.

This guy keeps making the same mistakes. He makes no effort to fix the mistakes, and won't even acknowledge that they are mistakes. Not only that, he's blaming you for his mistakes. And you've all convinced yourselves that there's no one out there better for you, just because we've had some pretty dark points in our history.

Think better of yourselves, folks. We don't deserve to settle for 3-9 when we should be 9-3.

He may not be talking to us specifically but he is talking about a fan base that has supported him and the team through thick and thin. A support that is relatively unique compared to the actual success on the field.

You know this though and just want to be a little sanctimonious.

He can lose his friend or lose his team.

Something drastic has to be done. Now.

You cannot have such a disparity in performance between the two sides of the ball.

If offense doesn't change soon, defense will match it in performance.

Nobody wants to get hurt playing hard knowing it won't result in a win.
