Louisiana is the armpit of America.

Seriously, this place has more worthless trash than anywhere else I've ever been. And that's saying something since I now live in east Texas. I haven't seen a nice part of Louisiana yet.

But I do like their hot sauce.

Admittedly, I have not. I drove through the southern part a couple times at night heading to AZ. Looked like a good place for scary movies to happen.

Maybe next time I will heed your advice and go a different route.

The Taos area is definitely the highlight of New Mexico. But it's a destination, not an area to drive through on the way somewhere else. You'll get slowed down a lot on a winding two-way road choked with traffic. Don't go to Taos unless you are going to Taos.

It may not be the cleanest place on earth, but I will say some of the nicest people I've met were in southern Louisiana. And the food is second to none. I also believe that anyone that went to Shreveport for the bowl games will agree with me.

The Quarter does smell funky, but the food in New Orleans can't be beat. SE Louisiana is one of my favorite places, with New Orleans being an awesome city to explore, and all of the things within driving distance (fishing, camping, swamps, Gulf Shores/Pensacola Beaches, etc.) make it a great place to be!

What is there to do in that area? I'm looking for a trip to take this summer, and I love the desert.

I know I could google it, but that's what I have Fanatics for!

Having done time at Fort Polk, La, it resides somewhere lower on the anatomy than armpit.
