Loney or Rhoads, don't make the mistake

so many other schools like ISU make, hiring a name coach who earned the name recognition at a talent rich school.

Look at Rutgers, West Virginia. These two are both comparable to ISU and they both hired coaches who were from the university and both have been successful.

Hiring a guy who has never even been a coordinator at the DI or pro level would be a terrible idea.

And paper coordinators do not count. If you don't call the plays during the games, you aren't the coordinator.

I will be very disappointed if Pollard makes the mistake so many other schools make.

Yea pretty sure Ferentz wasn't a mistake, good point!!! Loney would be a mistake, I don't see him as being much different from Dan, plus he really hasn't had success anywhere he has been, so it would be a stupid hire, unless as an O.C., not a head coach, don't hire a guy just because he has so many ties to the university. Paul Rhoads would be a decent hire, he has had a lot of success coaching defensive players at Pitt and would prolly be the coach there if not for Wannstedt. But Loney isn't the guy, now is Brewster the guy, who knows, he has been much more succesful where he has gone, but hasn't been a head coach, which is a big downside to all of these guys!
After really weighing upside and downside by top 5 would be

1. Bo Pelini
2. Mike Price
3. Jim Harbaugh
4. Gene Chizik
5. Tim Brewster

I would be happy with all of these guys but I like the fire in Pelini, Price is a proven winner who has been a head coach. Harbaugh has the name and comes from a very succesful coaching family. Chizik is a real up and comer and Brewster seems to have some pretty damn good credentials, but is he a head coach- who the hell knows!!!!

I'm not sure he should be our guy, but am wondering why he hasn't been talked about more? Okay he's not flashy enough for some people, but the New England Patriot coach isn't either and he seems to do okay?

Looney had good success when he coached here and he's got the Pro experience now which a lot of recruits like. The bonus is he wants to coach here and is an ISU graduate. That would mean he would probably stick unlike most of the other canidates.

JP will make a wise decison one way or the other and I'll be happy with whoever he picks.

Ferentz fits the criteria I set, not yours. He was not a big name. He was a DI head coach and a pro coach. He had been at Iowa and liked the university. He knew Iowa and what to expect.

I think Loney has been successful. He was here during our most successful seasons, he turned the Mn line into a solid unit that had great rushing. He has been part of some good to great teams. I think is is a better choice than Harbough who has success at the JV level only (while coaching).
