The same people that are saying the coaching staff are to blame for how she played better have the same stance with the transfers that have left on the men's team then too else you are just being hypocritical. CW said it best on one of his podcasts with Blum recently "if these players could help you win they would be playing more." That's exactly my thoughts on Hansford, she was given every chance early in the season to establish a role in the rotation and her shooting was so bad at times I'm not sure she could have hit water if she fell out of a boat in those games. ZorkClone posted that 4 game stretch against some non-conference opponents that she got 12-16 minutes a game and went 0 for in all 4. If your role is to be a sharpshooting 3 point shooter and you can't hit a bucket in roughly 15 minutes of play then I don't see how that is going to change getting 20+ minutes either while helping us win games especially against better teams.

It just unfortunately did not work out here and we didn't have the luxury of giving her increased minutes in hope she would come out of her shooting funk. I wish her the best and hope she succeeds at GB, that level of play is probably the best for her at this point.

Agree. Along with her length she was also quick enough to go for the offensive rebound and still get back in position on D.

Unfortunately, 35% of her total season points was that single game against UCF. She never even scored 5 points in any other game, that is too bad to be allowed to play.

But look at these stats vs real stinkers of teams and say she deserved to get more time.
To Bill's credit he played a lot of girls early in the season. The problem was that Lily, Harris, Tanke, and Hare all struggled. No one really took advantage of the minutes. In the end, he turned back to Kelsey. For a variety of reasons, our transfers didn't work out the way we had all hoped and our roster construction seemed to be lacking athleticism and length.

Getting Hare back will be a positive. Jada is a great addition. We will get more quickness at PG. On the downside we lose some size with Emily leaving. I think we still have a significant issue with roster construction. I understand Lily leaving. I don't really understand Kelsey leaving, but if we end up with an long, athletic SF/PF it would help this roster makeup significantly.

WeI didn't suggest the staff was completely at fault for her season-long slump but as previously posted, they played a role IMO in not being able to facilitate her snapping out of it. Credit the staff when they help a player improve and when they significantly regress like Hansford, the staff isn't partially responsible?

We aren't around practices to know what they were doing with her but they brought her in to be a 3 point shooter so I highly doubt they did nothing to help her. Early in the season she was one of the first players off the bench but when you don't make your first basket until the 9th game you play in how much more help and playing time can you give a player that is not making the shots she was put in the game to take?

With her mechanics on her 3 point shot I was surprised she shot as well as she did are Oregon State. Instead of squaring her shoulders up and shooting she would drop one foot back and shoot somewhat sideways from her body.

I can only image how difficult it is to base your success or failure on the performance of 18-23 year olds, but ultimately it all goes back to the coach and his staff at the college level. Not only do they coach the players, they recruit the players for the team. It is impossible to project how every player will play, but if a player is not successful some of the blame has to fall on the staff. Same is true of MBB. Same is true for football. The key is to have more successes than misses and team success that makes everyone ignore your misses.

And I would say we have had MORE successes than misses.

She also appeared to have a very long pre-shot/windup. It seemed like she had to be wide open to even make an attempt.

Not surprising. Hope she's able to find a place where she can find her shot again.
Her last IG posts I saw were from Tampa, so she must have visited USF? Probably a choice between PT and beach T. Glad she chose the game:) I wish her the best.

Sometimes no matter what you do in the given amount of time you just can’t help someone. Sure they are responsible for trying whatever they can, but ultimately it’s the player…whether it’s improving or struggling.

If I remember correctly Hansford came in late so was not a part of summer workouts last year (or at least a small part of them). Most teams will not try to make major adjustments to players shots during the season - my guess is that they just hoped she could work her way out of the slump with minor adjustments but she never did.

So is at the level she belongs at GB.
From your comment, I'm guessing you don't know much about UW Green Bay WBB. After a slow start with a new head coach fitting together a bunch of transfers, UWGB won the Horizon League at 19-1, went 29-6 overall and lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to 5 Seed Alabama. Their coach, Kayla Karius, is a highly respected up-and-comer ISU probably has on their candidate list for when Fennelly retires. In short, UWGB is a really great landing spot for Hansford and I expect her to be renewed like a phoenix!

Thanks for the education - but I knew all that. They have been very good for a very long time, with a few ups and downs.
I stand by my statement. She is not a P5 player, imo. I think a step down in conference will be good for her. I really do wish her well. The top teams in these conferences can compete with P5 schools. Ask Missouri MBB about Drake. I think she is at a level where she has a better chance to succeed week in and week out. I look forward to following her stats this year.
