I figure Conan's gonna be pissed about this one.

Turns out NBC only offered him the 10:30 SLOT.

However, Conan really wants to move out to Los Angeles because that's where all the stars are at. He'll never be able to do that as long as Leno has his show there.

That being said, it's a brilliant move for NBC (there may be a lot of Leno haters here, but the ratings don't lie...)

They're already building a brand new studio for Conan in LA, so I think he's still going out there. I guess they could have changed their plans and maybe Leno will get the new studio instead.

I think they do lie. Give an audience a choice between watching Leno with Will Smith as the guest or watching Conan with the girl from Felicity, who do you think the audience is going to tune in to? It's the guests that I think give the Tonight Show it's audience. And what's the deal with the Gay Intern guy? He was an intern a decade ago, when is he going to get a real job? Hopefully the new show will breath new life into Leno. It seems like they are doing the same jokes and same bits as they were doing a decade ago.

They don't have to make a choice between Leno and Conan because they'll be on at different times.

Local affiliates will benefit from this if it works. Sandwiching the local news between Leno and Conan may get a lot more people to watch it in the markets where the NBC affiliate isn't already #1.

As for the Ross the Intern, he's not actually an intern anymore but they still refer to him as "Ross the Intern."

Honestly, I didn't even know Leno was still on the air. That's how much TV I watch. I don't expect that will change with him moving to 9.

His ratings will actually likely improve - there are more people out there that will be able to watch him at 10:00/9:00 than were able to watch him at 11:30/10:30...

The article quoted in one of the above posts said that this was brought up to Conan some time ago and he is onboard...for whatever that's worth...

Of course he's going to say that to the press. I don't know why Conan would be happy with this move. He's going to be competing with Leno for the big stars along with Kimmel. Where are the big stars going to go when they have a new movie coming out when they are doing their press junkets?

I agree with you. I just think Conan given the opportunities Leno has would have a larger share of the ratings. I think Leno will still get the bigger stars and get bigger ratings than Conan. I would've liked to see what kind of ratings Conan would've got without Leno being around.

I don't know. I could only watch Conan bob his hair up and down in front of the camera for so long before I permanently tuned him out. I just don't think he's a Tonight Show guy and don't think he will last - regardless of what they do with Leno.

People said the same thing about Leno when he took over from Johnny Carson, and for what it's worth I still agree with that sentiment. I was 13 when Carson retired, but I still remember watching him and miss him anytime I watch Leno. For me, Johnny Carson was and always will be the Tonight Show.

I was 33 when Carson retired and I thought Leno was the perfect fit then. i especially preferred him over Letterman. Likely a demographic issue since most posters on this site are considerably younger than I.

Well, that seals that deal. I won't be watching NBC any night at 9:00 now.

This is, at best, a temporary fix for NBC. I don't see it lasting more than two or three years, even if it's successful. I think it's terribly risky. It's one of those things where if it works they'll be seen as geniuses, and if it doesn't people will ask what they were thinking.

I don't think it will last 6 months. I would bet that Leno's ratings at that time will be miserable, as bad or worse than NBC's current ratings at that time slot. At 10:30 people are winding down and the evening talk show is appropriate for the time, at 9:00 there are just too many other options.

Honestly, I know I'm in a VAST minority on THIS site, but I love Leno. I used to sleep 4 - 5 hours per night and could stay up and watch Leno and still get up early. Now, that I'm older and more tired (but still wake up early), I'm usually snoring by the time Leno comes on. Now, I'll get the opportunity to see Leno much more often. I'm pretty juiced about it.

Wonder if he'll still do Jaywalking and Headlines?

This is terrible. Leno truly is the absolute most unfunny of all of the late night people. He sits there all night and reads a bunch of unfunny jokes that he did not even write. Conan is by far the most hilarious and creative person at nights, and will be great when he takes over, as he is just naturally funny. Letterman is also naturally funny, I agree that he has turned into a bitter old man, and is a shell of his former self. He seems to be just riding out his time before retirement.

I'm just glad I got to see greatness that was Johnny Carson. I never really cared for Leno, use to love Letterman, but Conan is my kind of humor.
