Last years team vs this years

Well considering our "best shooter" is shooting 33% from 3 (which is dead last on our team) and his shooting 44% from 2 (which is second to last behind Matt), it's promising that we are still finding ways to win. He also averages 2 rebounds per game (2nd to last behind Cook) and has 11 TOs (tied for second on team).

Naz has got to pull it together for this team to make a deep run and he's not showing signs early in the season.

We're ahooting exactly the same clip we did last year from 3 and 5 percent better inside the arc. Feel that our defense is better this year. But tough to tell this early...not a soft schedule by any means, but no real tests yet.

Our defensive efficiency is up from #79 last year to #25 this year (iirc, was discussed by Reid forgrave with Chris last night). Remember Blums article about how no team has made the final four that isn't top 50 in Defensive efficiency. So far so good.

Monte said it himself

I think last year we took games like this for granted,â€￾ point guard Monte Morris said, “but now, knowing what we’ve got at stake, being No. 5 in the country, we just have to approach everybody like it’s Colorado or Kansas or (teams) like that I think our biggest focus this year is no matter who we’re playing, going out and playing our best. North Dakota State or anybody, we’re going to go out there and play hard.â€￾ - See more at: http://m.amestrib.com/hines-hoops/empyting-notebook-north-dakota-state#sthash.Fs2JMus4.dpuf

Naz is shooting 47.7% overall and is shooting over 70% from 2

First off I disagree that he's not playing well . He's already hit a couple key 3's and his added demension of finishing at the rim has been a nice suprise. He is contributing and helping this years team and siting 3pt percentage after 6 games seems premature (his turnovers are more concerning to me than his dip in shooting). I'd also agrue Naz isn't playing any worse than how he ended last year when his injured was limiting him and they still took the B12 title. Naz is a great cyclone but 5th most important starter with 2 players that can fill in for him if Prohm wants more production at the SG in Cooke and Thomas. Nader improved play and the pending addition of Burton adds to the potential of this team with this version of Naz (and as he gets more comfortable his 3pt % should improve as he get's healthier and plays more in Hilton).

Agree to disagree. He has shot well one game, Chattanooga (6-9 from 3). But has had 3 games where he went 1-9, 2-9 and 1-8 from 3.

And while is driving is a nice surprise, he is still only shooting 44% from 2 -- second worst on the team.

That is really inaccurate. He's shooting 73.9% from 2 this year (17-23)

Yeah... your statistics are incorrect.

Couldn't watch last night...but the other closer games, CU, and Illinois, didn't make me nervous when it got tight. There's something about the way Prohm has reigned them in when they need it on both ends of the floor.

Even in the close games ISU still seems to be dictating what's happening.

We wouldn't have lost this game last year. I don't think we would have beaten Colorado with last year's team however.

I believe this years team plays longer and more sustained defense. This years team is so much fun to watch. I loved last years team, but this years team plays better defense.

With the normal caveat that it's early, it's early it's very very early:

Last years team ended the year 71st in kenpom.com's defensive efficiency, allowing 97.5 points per 100 possessions (adjusted for opponent quality).

This years' team is 22nd at 93.5. They have to maintain it, but they are off to a very good start defensively.

The biggest difference for me is Nader's emergence. He gives us that option that we didn't have late last season. He can go get a basket 1-on-1. His ability to create his own shot takes a lot of pressure of Monte and Georges. Our man-to-man defense is way more focused so far. We are moving our feet and contesting shots. Rebounding will probably be an issue all season. Just hope McKay can keep his current pace and get help from Burton when he's back.

I agree. At most, we can say this team is looking better up to this point.
