Last years team vs this years

I might get blasted for this, but I think Prohm might be a better coach than Fred. He isn't as dreamy though.
It's too early to tell. He's the perfect compliment to what Fred established for this team, this season. All the mismatch, shooting 3's 1-2 steps behind the line, inverted offense, etc. is so ingrained in these guys. It's those things or similar that we have yet to see when a new group gets developed.

He's also been pretty open about letting the guys use a lot of the tools that Fred installed on offense. Fred and Prohm seem to be pretty different. Fred is less of a traditional coach and a brilliant offensive basketball mind. Prohm is more hands-on and seems to be better with defense. I think it's a great match for this team full of veterans who learned a lot from Fred to now get coached by Prohm going into their last season together and hopefully put it all together.

I think comparing this team to last years team is an impossible exercise in futility. It is like comparing a weather system to a different weather system, there are no two systems, set in different places in different times, that are exactly the same. "The wind blows where it chooses, you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from, or where it goes."

Agreed. Nader's a good player for us this year but he's not Hogue.

I'm curious on Burton for this reason too

I'm sorry but Nader is better than Hogue. It's really close actually. Sure, Hogue worked hard but he doesn't have the skill or body that Nader has. It's an upgrade.

That may be true, but the fact is his rebounding production dropped off dramatically (due likely in part to addition of McKay) between his junior/senior year and 5 boards a game ia not hard to replace with Nader. Not saying Hogue sucks or didn't outperform expectations at his size, but it is what it is...
Hogues rebounding drop off was strange. It started right away, before McKay joined. Hogue was a very good player, and one of my favorite Clones, but I think Nader will end this season as a much better player than 14-15 Hogue. What I like the most is that this team is going to be really tough to press. With Morris, Nader and Niang plus the improved ball handling of Thomas and Long and the addition of Cook, there should be 3 great and one solid ball handlers on the floor at all times.

I have no experience to base this on, but since this team is so upperclassman heavy, they have probably learned about as much technique as they were going to from Fred by the time he left. Prohm gets to add his knowledge to that base for these players. Too early to tell on game planning, in-game adjustments, and ability to handle pressure at this point. I think Fred was considered near elite for many of those factors.

The players have been ingrained with Fred's offensive system and learned spacing and trust in playing ~3 years together. Prohm has left most of the Fred's offense and emphisized the defense in my eyes. If he just adds that element this team is worthy of the top 5 ranking and his addition will help this particular roster of upperclassmen.

Verdict is out on this for me...want to see how he handles big games and hostile atmospheres in conference play. But I was thinking during the Illinois game whether or not Fred would have gone to a small line up in that game or if he would have just let his guys play through it. Subtle, but makes me wonder if there were adjustments that could have been made during losses in recent years....

Prohm already has made decisions that have helped us win. Playing small ball without McKay for a large chunk of the second half was a great decision.

Last year's team lost 9 games, this year's team has lost zero games (so far). This year's team is much better (so far).

Looks like Prohm talks a lot more than Fred ever did in the huddle. Not Ts for Prohm yet either.

I do not think it was strange at all. In his junior year, the opposition focused on Melvin Ejim. So, Hogue was not as well defended. In his senior year, before Mackay came along, he was "the man" and the opposition could key on him. I still think he had a great senior year, but his role changed from Junior to Senior year.
