Anyone remember the guy that started the year as our kicker and missed his first attempt badly and we never heard from him again? I think it was the 05 season and it wasn't Jansen. I think he had a latino name.

Lane Danielsen and Jack Whitver.

Point made, but I'm not sure I'd classify them in the same category as Carstens. Sure, Danielsen and Whitver were exceptions to the "walk-on" rule, but Carstens even went to the NFL and had substantial playing time with the Panthers (before that blood clot). Carstens was the kind of player you just don't expect to reap.

I think your argument would have been better had you referred to a success story like Jordan Carstens - the only "great" ISU walk-on that I can think of.
