Woo hoo! Kyven Gadson, a state champion at 171 last year from Waterloo East, and the son of former Cyclone All-American Willie Gadson, committed to the good guys. Congratulations Kyven!

Kyven gives an excellent interview where he discusses his commitment, the Cyclones and his college wrestling plans:

Though you may have to register to hear it, I'm glad I did. A lot of information there. He has always been a Cyclone fan.

The Waterloo Courier in February 2008 had an excellent article about Waterloo East, and their improvement since Willie Gadson became coach:

In 2009 East finished 8th at state, and not too far from finishing as high as 5th:

This for the 2010 class?
Yes.

In the interview, he says he will almost certainly redshirt, and that he is young for his class (July birthday, he just turned 17).

I followed Willie Gadson when I was in high school, more than 30 years ago. Ironically, working out I met him several years ago in Iowa City, at the UI Fieldhouse, of all places. Willie was an assistant at IC West (maybe it was City High), and I think his wife was working on her PhD. In a short time amount of time we talked about a lot, including the Cyclones, diet, wrestling style, and coaching philosophy. I shared with him my own experiences. It is interesting to hear Kyven relate some of the same things we talked about. It is amazing how much we discussed in such a short amount of time.

The old man was a punishing wrestler. If his is anything like his dad, we have a great recruit.
