Kyle Kelm is.....

Actually you don't get it. You are automatically assuming McDermott will be giving Barnes someone else's scholarship, which is almost certainly not the case. Gary explained that it's not worth worrying about, because these things are common and they always work out. This is two years away, and a lot can happen.

Look at the numbers Benjay. Explain to me how we give a scholarship to Kelm AND Barnes w/o at least 2 people losing their scholarship.

Either do I. What got me all confused was the number of people advocating that it was ok to do.

That's my biggest issue w/ some here. They seem to think it is OK to recruit over somebodies scholarship. I doubt they would be saying the same thing if Iowa was doing it. They would be ripping them every chance they get and rightfully so.

WE NEVER SHOULD HAVE SIGNED THE LATE SIGNEES THE LAST 2 YEARS THAT WE DID.

Nobody knows what McD has promised if anything to anyone. Some of you guys need a reality check. You want the programs, or close to it that the Dukes of the world have with playing a different game on the recruiting front. Can't happen! Winning is everything in D1 sports for the coach, to keep his job. I believe McD will do what he should do and that is to get the best players possible we need to do just that, within the boundries of the NCAA. Those of you who don't think he should do whqt it will take, don't expect much from the program anytime soon and don't B...h!

I'm not worried about this at all. McDermott knows what he is doing. If he has to over recruit then so be it. Although I don't know why we signed Christopherson since we don't need him.

Whatever. We all know what he promised. He promised a scholarship.

Recruit over but don't do it in a way that is wrong. I am not saying that he currently is, but it sure looks like he is going down this path

Wow. 141 posts until someone had to bring Iowa into the picture. I wonder what the record is as this has to be close.

That's the point - we don't know, so why complain? It's not my job to explain that to you and I'm sure I don't know. Maybe you should ask McDermott! I'm sure he'll give you a nice cup of stfu. :biglaugh:

Actually, we don't know that. There are a lot of assumptions going on here and a lot of expectations based on very, very limited knowledge.

Two? Kelm puts us AT the limit, not over. To sign Barnes we would need attrition of one player in the next two years. That could easily happen because of someone transferring for more playing time, someone being injured, someone going pro, grade issues, etc.

That's not an assumption, thats a fact.

Look again Monty.

Re: I jusrt read the Kelm thread

And if that one was so bad, why the hell did you start a new one?

I don't find it unethical at all if a kid loses his scholarship. I actually hope we have this problem at ISU, where we are recruiting studs and then have to get rid of the duds. I highly doubt that this is going to be a problem at all for ISU though.

People talk about how this isn't about Iowa State but that's exactly what everyone is talking about. There is a group of McDermott haters on this board and there is a group of Mac Homers as well. If McDermott lands that 2010 recruiting class, why can't the haters not realize how great an achievement that would be. It would be probably the best recruiting class in the history of Iowa State. But no, we have to point out the problems with it before it even happens. This whole conversation is based upon a far fetched hypothetical.

If Mac wasn't recruiting Kelms and holding out for Barnes, he would be slammed by the haters for not having a back up plan. But now that he is showing his back up plan, he's getting slammed for having to many offers. It's starting to seem like people are just looking for negatives in whatever he does.

Then that's where we disagree. If a kid loses his scholarship due to oversigning (and no other reason), I find that to be unethical.

Of course, I've also said numerous times that I'd LOVE both Kelm and Barnes, and I've wanted Kelm for a while. And I don't think it'll be an issue.
