Unfortunate update: https://www.desmoinesregister.com/s...rts-editor-columnist-dies-age-56/82492152007/

Bryce and I shared mutual friends. He officiated their wedding in the middle of nowhere outside of Decorah. Somehow, he needed a ride back to Des Moines, so I offered to take him. He was incredibly friendly and personable. That was the only real interaction I've had with him but I can tell by my friends reactions online that Bryce left a pretty big impact on them.

That is a really nice article about him. Worth the read IMO.

Hope Sean eventually gets a permanent co-host as having Eickholt and Condon as guest hosts make for some brutal shows some mornings. I'd rather just have Sean do it solo most of the mornings he has them. Today Trent was whacking off to how much he enjoys betting on golf which at that point I changed the station as it wasn't a short conversation, he went on several minutes about it and Sean didn't try to move on from it. Both those guys also seem to go down rabbit holes sometimes and totally derail the show and it's not always Hawkeye related stuff they do it with either. Trent especially gets way too excited digging into anything that he can bring in a gambling angle to.

Eickholt basically is a co-host on that station at this point. He just shuffles between shows.

I think a lot of local talk shows, small podcasts, etc hear these random/personal digressions when listening to the industry's big names like Cowherd, McAfee, Lebatard, etc. and try to emulate that. When those big names do it well, it can be fun and brings more dimension to the personalities. But when local talk shows do it, the hosts don't often realize that they are a) not as interesting as national media personalities, b) not as good at storytelling, or c) both.

I can't even listen to KXNO anymore. The only thing they talk about that's related to sports is sports betting.
Tired of it!!

Talking about Sean’s wedding every day for 20 minutes got hella monotonous. And I don’t think it was really his idea to do that. Haven’t listened much since then.

I have a very short hook for KXNO programming these days. If what they are talking about doesn't interest me and they don't shift to another topic in timely manner I find something else to listen to. Sean has actually grown on me lately, he's really stepped up his game after Ross left and he's been trying to bring on guests fairly regularly that keep me interested. That is saying a lot because I used to be a big critic of his but maybe part of that was because Travis and Heather liked to rip on him so it took him getting his own show to finally get out from people that were holding him back?

Really enjoy his chats with coach Fennelly and he's had Pollard on a few times too. Also some gets on some other coaches and local guests to fill the time, way better than listening to Beavis and Butthead (Travis and Ross) in the mornings who usually lacked any kind of flow to their show. That Jordan gal he has on once in awhile does a nice job too but she apparently works for Marquee Network so guessing that is why she has not been on lately. Obviously Alec Busse is a good co-host when he is on because of the Cyclone angle. Trent though is by far the one I can't stand the most which is another reason why is why I rarely listen to Miller and Condon already.

I only have the radio on in the morning during my drive around 7-7:30am so I don't listen to the whole show. Heard him talk some though on it and as a parent myself I get the excitement of having your first kid so I don't blame him for wanting to talk about it as most people usually do in their daily lives when expecting their first child. It's better than constantly talking about boobs and other gutter minded topics that Travis brought up on a daily basis.

I leave for work at 6 am and it's everyday now. But I get your point.

100% I was in the same boat as you. I didn't care for Sean at all because I hated the Travis/Heather dynamic of the show. I caught part of his show a few months back and was really surprised at how far he had come. IMO you can tell he is actually passionate about sports media where Heather/Ross/Travis are just there to fill air time and collect a check.

Sean has really grown into a good radio personality. I think getting out from under Travis' and Heather's "parentage" helped him shine.

I'll give him a pass on the personal talk (wedding, baby, etc.). Some listeners are very invested in his personal life, and that's fine. And it's great he shares. Plus, it's essentially the off-season in Central Iowa sports. As long as the personal talk isn't the whole show, I don't think it's a bad thing. Makes him relatable.

There was a time where Sean had issues dating because of being on the radio. Travis and Heather would basically have him spill the beans on air about anyone he was seeing at the time and try to pry any details out of him they could. Sean even said he got flagged on a dating app one time that someone put a note that beware if you go on a date with him they may talk about you on the radio. Glad he was able to finally find someone that he seems to be very happy with and now is about to start a family with. There were times he basically was playing the village idiot of the morning show whether it was an act, who he really was at the time, or maybe a little of both. Now he can talk circles around Travis and Ross as well as Heather and Lucas when it comes to actually hosting a sports talk show that has some substance to it and doesn't rely on a bunch of off-topic fluff to fill the time.

Some may remember the time where they were trying to hook Sean up with Maria Lisignoli at Channel 13 even though they eventually found out she already had a boyfriend. Travis still kind of pushed it to his usual creepy/uncomfortable conversations trying to stir the pot trying like he could force it to happen. Travis and Ross also seemed to have a thing for young females at 13 at one point as they would have Maria, Amber Alexander, Courtney Johns on their show from time to time and usually act like childish boys hoping to get them to talk about something juicy with them. I can't remember who the female meteorologist before Amber was but she was on their show for a segment about once a week for awhile it seemed like too that started that trend.

Considering the type of show he was a part of when he started to where he is now he's come a LONG ways and he's ditched the childish crap he was drug into for entertainment purposes and seems to be building a show that focuses more on sports talk than fluff topics to fill the air like so many other KXNO hosts have done.

Sean has had the ability for a while. He and Emory Songer used to have a Saturday morning show that was pretty good. After you listened to that show with Emory, you could tell right away that Travis and Heather were dragging him down. I get frustrated because Heather will still talk down to him at times on the afternoon show.

She is the worst radio “talent” in Des Moines. I prefer Lucas over her by a million. Lucas and Sean in the afternoon would be the best option. Just do national radio in the morning.
