the student(s) that displayed the "Wir Lieben Lucca" sign at the game Saturday. I was sitting by Lucca's grandparents and they very moved by that gesture. They mentioned that they plan to return next season to watch Lucca play.

Sorry, I didn't see the earlier threads pertaining to this topic. I do speak German well which came in handy in speaking with them since their English is very, very limited.
I see there was some discussion of how to word the sign in German. "Wir lieben Lucca" is accurate and the best translation for that particular statement.

Were there any "Free Lucca" chants during the game? I didn't get a chance to go and I didn't hear any on tv.
I remember one, but I think it might have been during a timeout, which might have not been caught on tv.
We love Lucca.
I especially like that they used the polite rather than a more familiar form.
There was one Free Lucca chant. Unfortunately, it was during a time out, and the band played over it for most of the chant.
We tried starting one up, but the pep band ended up drowning us out (unintentionally).
I heard one while watching TV. Don't really remember when it was - but did mention it in the game thread.
The U announcers made reference to his situation as well. They dodged around it a bit, but came across that he was getting screwed.
His grandparents heard the "Free Lucca" chant; I brought it to their attention at the time. The U announcer was Mike Kelley from Milwaukee, an ex-Badger player who played for Wisconsin in the NCAA final four a few years ago. He and Coach Otz are old buddies dating back to high school when they played against each other.
