Serious question, is he considered a lock for the starting job next year? I assume so by default, but I was impressed with Noland with his brief appearance as well and wondered if he might push him for the job.
YES. Noland may push him for the job. Throw velocity, like with Park, is Zeb's main winning attribute over Kyle. Kyle wins on accuracy in short, mid, and mid deep routes, and with decision making. BOTH are very good at identifying routes early and going through progressions quickly (unlike Lanning). But no one says that Zeb cannot improve between last season and this coming season. I bet BOTH are looking forward to the competition in spring and fall ball.

What was the point of waiting? Make the fans sweat it out?

Waiting until today to announce kept other schools from negative recruiting against us: "Hey recruit, did you see they got back their starting QB? You will be a forgotten man if you go to ISU. Blah, Blah, Blah...." Recruits knew that Kempt was coming back and they are the only ones that had a right to know and everyone else, including those other schools, could wait until today. This staff does things right and for a reason.

I'm envisioning the happy parts of Brian's Song, and a surprise Big 12 Championship ending.

Quick. Someone pull up Jess Settles' stats?

Did he get better for Iowa after he hit his 30th birthday?

Settles has one half of a basketball game left for eligibility. Just biding his time for when the hoks are REALLY hustling.

Old and wise can be good. Deandre Kane was something like 24 or 25 when he played for ISU.

Kempt has the 11th highest quarterback rating among all returning FBS players and #1 in the Big 12!!!!!!!!!
I can smell that title. It's gonna cost me a fortune to fly back for multiple games next year....
