How is the Jackson/Hare combo a bigger liability?

It's not like Joens is significantly taller than either. Jackson is a better defender.
Joens insertion in the starting lineup at the 3 clearly elevated the team so not sure why you think replacing her with Jackson would be a positive. It wouldn’t be especially given the loss of perimeter defensive length with Jackson.

Evidently the Cyclones Way that Bill always talks about no longer applies.
I think he was just honest with her about playing time next year. I loved watching her hustle all year but with Williams taking a starting spot and AJ or Hare starting at the second guard minutes are going to be limited. I wish she was staying but I'm sure she wants a bigger role than she would see here. Not sure what that has to do with the Iowa State way.

You think Jackson was the problem? Jackson was the best defender on the team. Current Roster will srart Williams, Jackson, Hare, Brown, Crooks. Now if they have a 3 still to transfer that may change, but most likely Joens was fighting for minutes off the bench with Harris and Tanke. I would have been happy to see that but in today's college game the roster move. We kept the 2 most important added a starter and get a starter back who played about what 7 or 8 games. This team won 22 games in a year we struggled. Let's have a little faith. With roster losses in the Big 13, we should be in the Top 4 fighting for a title with Baylor, TCU and Okie St.

Didn't Jackson also start. And started the whole season. I just think Jackson is a better player. Better ball-handler, better defender and shot a solid 37% from 3.

Joens did make last year's team better. But next years team has to win games against the better teams. Jada Williams is hopefully part of the answer. Also hope Hare (or Jensen or Beaty) can provide more consistency on the wing.

I loved Joen's effort and she made 3's- but consistent production was lacking from our starting wing whether it was Hare, Joens, Harris or Tanke.

I am still hopeful we find a 6'+ plus girl in the portal to start on the wing next year.

In what world do you not want Kelsey Joens on this team next year. Ideally, she may not be a starter if you have high goals for this year but the fact is the team played better this past year when she played significant minutes. Obviously I’m not at practice, but from what I have seen she would be a valuable role player even if we add a transfer.

Maybe she wanted to start and play 34 minutes a game?

Not that I like it, but don’t you think this is what happens at every school as they end the year & do evaluations. Do you think TJ told all of the guys at the end of the bench to stay & they chose to leave? I hat the way it works & hate that Kelsey is leaving but maybe there is someone else waiting. Who knows? AgaIn, I hate the way this business works so I hope HCBF has someone waiting to commit. BF is feeling the pressure to win with Audi & Addy & his looming retirement & wants to maximize their ability to win & try to go out on the highest stage possible. Anyone agree?
I don't know who we've added that will be a improvement but time will tell. Find out about Feb of next yr. the preseason cupcake schedule tells us nothing IMO.

Well, too be fair, I don't think anyone's heard a peep from him (or anything about him) since his sound off on Ashley having to sit out a game and that was the COVID year. Dragging him into this now comes off as petty to me.

That's an easy call to make from Minnesota. You don't get the full in-game experience from your couch.

I don't think anyone wouldn't want Joens on next year's team. The question is whether she would start.

IMO she a solid bench player.
But with Jackson, Hare, Harris, Tanke, Beaty and Jensen also fighting for the 80 minutes at the 2/3 spots- no guarantee Joens would play more than 10-15mpg.

if I had a choice I would have preferred to see Tanke transfer, but lets hope that she has a great off season and improves her shooting and defense.
Come the fall whoever is on the team is who I cheer for.

If the choice is Jackson or Joens, you go Jackson. Her defense and quickness outmatches Kelsey's considerable scrappiness strength. Add in ball handling, and she's just a much more valuable player. Not to diss Kelsey, I think that she is an incredible player and we will *absolutely* feel this loss, but it's much more about us being too strong at that position versus too weak. Jackson started all year as well, so I'm not quite sure what you're trying to prove with this at all. I think the bigger conversation would've been Hare vs Joens, but even then, I think Hare gets the edge there as well. Again - nothing against Kelsey, it's just we have two very strong players at that 2/3 as well, especially with Jada being added and prohibiting Jackson from moving more into that role.

It’s all about minutes. There are 200 to be divided up and 60-65 or those are gone to Brown and Crooks. Then take away another 25-30 with Jada and you're down to 110 minutes. Two more starters likely getting 25 each minimum. Now you have 60 minutes left. About 8 goes to post depth players. Now we have about 50 for remaining depth players at best. Another 10 or so goes to a backup point guard. That leaves 40. With the bench players we have it’s easy to see how she “might” have been told she might get 10 minutes per game. We all know minutes fluctuate based upon that particular game's performance. There likely would be games she might get 5 minutes and others she might get 20. She may be getting the same advice her sister got that she will get more time playing elsewhere. I truly hope it works out better for her than it did for her sister.

Chose LOL. It was pretty obvious for some reason she wasn't going to get a fair shake. This roster lacked an athletic PF last year. That need still needs to be addressed in the transfer portal. Hopefully that is the plan. Ideally, Brown starts at the 3 and then Jackson or Hare come off the bench.

I’ll never understand all the comments saying she would never get a fair shake. Like the staff had it out for her or something. If that were the case they’d tell her straight up to leave and free up the scholly. She wouldn’t have been here for the 24-25 season. So yes, she made a decision. No one else.
