He wants to be an engineer according to the infamous Tommy from Des Moines.

On a side note...Tommy is a Johnston Alum

I go to school with the Zach Guyer (Johnston Kicker) I belive if we offer him, he will come. But i'm not sure he'll come if they just offer him to walk on.

This is exactly what I have heard.

I would say 2 kickers on a full ride wouldn't be a bad thing considering our History in this department. Unless the staff knows they have a proven kicker on thier hands.

what is the deal with coaches not wanting to offer

a scholly to punter or kicker? I know alot of players and coaches dont consider them 'real players' but still i think its insane to not give one to a kicker. What play can have such a huge outcome or change a game so quickly as a 65 yr punt or a 54 yrd kick at the buzzer? Say like cost a certain team 2 Big 12 North titles.

I think GC experienced first hand what a quality kicker can do for a team this season. He'll do what's best for the team.

Not only that...But check this situation out.
Lets just say we round us up a great kicker. Lets say its a year like this year where our special teams just sucked. A kicker/punter can help hide how bad a special teams unit is when he kicks touchbacks 90% of the time, or doesn't leave the defense in a bad situation by missing a 45 yard fieldgoal or by punting the ball farther with more hangtime etc.... I think those positions get way too overlooked these days. I would rather burn up a scholly on that then on some 4th string linebacker that will never see play.

Kris Means??

Just kidding. I saw recently that he was moved back to LB. I had thought he switched to FB for a time.

He has good range.... off of the tee they kick from in HS..

Kicking from the grass will tell the true story.

I heard from Jamie Kohl that both the Johnston kicker and the Marion kicker both did not use the tee that they are allowed to in high school.

If Jamie Kohl says they are good, we should sign them both and let them dual it out for starting time.

Last I knew Means was still at FB. Word is he's been working on his blocking and pass catching. Lets remember, he was only a RS Freshman this year.

Do other schools use schollies for kickers (Crosby at CU, Kaeding and Schlicher at EIU, etc)

Yes on Kaeding and I am pretty sure on Schlicher. DMac offered Kaeding first so ui had to match and could not hold out for a walkon opportunity. I sat next to Schlicher's parents at the Shrine Bowl and overheard some conversations. I think if ISU would have offered a shollie we would have gotten him. I am not sure he got a schollie his first semester, but was promised one his second sememster or second year. Crosby no idea.

According to the roster, we have a kicker who was redshirted. Anyone know the story? If that's the case, why the redshirt?

Connor McMahon is the guy. Pretty interesting story on this kid. He took a year off after high school to go be pirate...as luck would have it he lost his leg. Card game or shark inccident, i do not know. Got fitted with a peg leg. Chizik was waiting till he got fitted with the proper prosthetic enabling him to kick field goals.
