I haven't kept track: do they have any or the original punishment left?
They got bowl eligibility back, now Joe's wins back.
Did they get some scholarships back too?

Paterno wins to be restored

sort of torn on this. On one hand, obviously there were some huge shortcomings by Penn State and Joe Paterno in how they handled Sandusky. But, at the same time, I think the NCAA stepped way beyond their bounds in issuing the penalties they did. I think between all the information that's come out about how the NCAA bluffed their way into getting Penn State to accept their sanctions, the yanking of the bowl ban and scholly reductions, and now the restoration of victories, this is as close as we're going to get to having the NCAA say they were wrong. I also think the NCAA sees the writing on the wall, and don't think the legal challenges to their actions, in this case, are going to go their way, so perhaps they're just trying to get ahead of the situation and relax the punishments themselves before they're forced to.

This is the one thing that should have stuck. I agreed with restoring everything else because the current staff and kids in that program didn't need to be punished for what the previous regime had done. Paterno did deserve to have those wins stripped from him though.

It really is too bad that they didn't get the choice of the death penalty or getting kicked out of the NCAA.

Yeah. No real winners here. Paterno's legacy is permanently stained by this scandal regardless of his career W-L record, it doesn't make the NCAA look great, and more importantly, it doesn't undo what Sandusky did. The victims still have to live with it.

Glad that the Penn State and its fans got back the only thing they seemed to care about.

Now if I can just go back and have my existence restored to a point where I didn't have to see the term "rhythmic slapping" describing an action between an adult and a young boy than we will all be winners.

I'm likely alone in this but I kind of like how the NCAA handled this. They punished them harshly, forced changes and once those changes were made and Penn St behaved, they pulled all the sanctions. I don't think PSU should have gotten off without anything and I didn't really think the NCAA was out of line in the first place.

I won't dig up the old threads but I specifically remember us arguing whether the NCAA had the power to punish PSU or not. It's become clear that they did not, or at the very least they aren't willing to go to court to set a precedent.

What changes were made, though? Pretty much everything that Penn State did (firing Paterno, Freeh investigation, etc) happened before the NCAA punishments were announced. And action against guys like Spanier and Schultz was going to happen anyway, regardless of the NCAA's action. The NCAA came off as Johnny Come Lately, piling on because everyone else seemed to be doing it.

Just once I'd like to see someone show some balls in this whole ordeal

(Please refrain from turning this into a Jerry Sandusky joke)

I don't know whats worse, all the facebook comments cheering the fact their dead coach is now the winningest ever again, or the fact that the NCAA folded like a lawn chair and basically reversed all forms of punishment.
