i can't help thinking that snagging the last 2-seed makes it more likely that we end up in UK's bracket. that being said, i think they'll be most vulnerable in the Elite 8, so why not?

I don't think we are a 2 seed, but on that note, we have to beat them some time, right? Better to see them as less of a threat. Might as well try sooner than later.

Let me get this straight, tell me if I am wrong.

If Iowa State gets a 2, we get Omaha pod in the Midwest Region with Kentucky at the 1 seed, but if we get a 3 seed, ISU gets ship to either Louisville or Columbus as likely destinations and stay away from Kentucky's regional, right?

I don't mind saying it, but I'd take that #2 seeding over Omaha anyday!
Say we get the #3 seed in Omaha... We win 2 games make the sweet 16. (that's all) ...be playing the #1 quick
We get a #2 seed and we blitz every team until the elite-8! (and hopefully we get in a bracket that KU isn't)

This makes no sense...we would play the 1 seed in the same round either way, and be playing the overall number 1 seed, UK a round early if we're 2 in Omaha....

We have more top 50 wins than any other team in the country.

Kansas is 9-5 vs. 1-25 competition (to our 7-5) and they don't have the horrendous TTech loss on their resume (though the Temple blowout doesn't look good). I don't see any scenario in which we take a 2 seed from the teams above us.

With that said I hope that we played our way up the 3 seed latter to the point to where we avoid the midwest bracket. Lunardi's latest has us in the south with Duke (who shouldn't be a 1 over Virginia or Wisconsin IMO); this is my dream bracket. A bracket with Duke and Gonzaga is VERY winnable. The last one, in which he had us in a midwest bracket with Kentucky, Wisconsin, us, Carolina, West Virginia, etc. was EASILY the toughest bracket I've seen. I'd want no part of that.

It seems like ISU has a higher ceiling and a lower floor than KU. But both average about the same over the course of the season. Doesn't seem to matter much between the 2 and 3 seed.

Again , it does if one means you play UK in their backyard in Elite 8, and the other means you play another top seed in the south ( where our fans will travel as well if not better than their's)
