Van Coleman was on KXNO this morning. He played up KSU recruiting. He didn't have much to say regarding ISU. Any more news on Dale Vanwright?

I don't understand the big buzz surrounding this guy. What do people actually know about his ability? I haven't found much. On rivals, he is a 3 star recruit and only averaged 10 points. So why the attraction?

Cy,

This was supposed to have been Patton's best recruiting class ever. That includes the year they landed Chauncey Billups. I read somewhere that Vanwright was a Top 60 Recruit and was the centerpiece of the CU recruiting class.

I think the big deal is that he would be able to come in and provide more depth to our current 9 man roster. He appears to be a swing player who could play the 2 or the 3. In short, he would add versatility and depth for this upcoming season.

If was truly top 60, then I say great, lets go after him. I just haven't seen anyone rank him very high. Like I said, rivals has him as 3 star. Bill Hodges lists him as a "super" prospect but doesn't have him as part of the "Hodge 100".

Obviously coaches know far better than I do if the kid is worth a scholly but I would just like to see some confirmation from some ranking site that he has top 100 ability.

When Vanwright is referenced, it almost always starts with "at one time, he was ranked 59th" ... to me, this implies that he fell somewhat in his senior year. He didn't end the year up in the top 100 of anyone's rankings.

We don't have a scholarship for the fall, unless i'm mistaken. So how would he fit in? Plus, and it seems others disagree on this, if he can't get in at CU, is he going to be able to make it in at ISU? From what i've read, it wasn't until they got his final transcript that they officially denied him. Something on the last grade card wasn't good enough.

Finally, we've got a pretty good lineup of potential players for 2007, with only four scholarships to give. We've got the athletic wing position pretty well solidified (Wesley Johnson, Rashson Clark, maybe Corey Johnson)...he's probably a solid player, but unless we really strike out with the players we're currently looking at for 2007, i just don't see him fitting into our current plans.

We actually have 2 or 3 scholarships for the fall, and just because he fell doesn't mean he didn't play well, he may have just elected not to play in some of the camps after he committed. Brackins didn't play in some of the shoe camps after he commited to us, and his ranking will drop because of it.

That's correct and Vanwright is a stud. I hope we get him.
