I really liked Jax.
Seemed like a "local REI."

Wonder if Dunhams has siphoned a lot of their business?

Maybe a little but I don’t think it’s the reason. Dunhams quality is really low. Maybe a step above Walmart with a lot of crossover.

I loved the Jax in Fort Collins when I lived out that way. Amazing military surplus section. I was excited first time I went to the Ames locale…..until I saw the prices. Yowza.

I bought a practice bomb back in 1988 and hung it in the window of our dorm room. It was Ames Surplus back then. I doubt they'd let that happen in today's sensitive world but I still have it hanging in my shop.

Retail that competes with online is not for the faint of heart... I hope someone steps up and buys the store, if possible
This. The landscape has changed dramatically on this front. Brick and mortar is an uphill climb, for sure.

This follows closely after Back Country in Beaverdale closed after 51 years. Its an almost impossible type of business to run on a small scale in this day and age.

This sucks. I’ve spent a LOT of money there the last 5 years. Seemed like they were always busy too.
