anyone else noticed that when this past class is discussed, Jake Knott is always the first discussed? I noticed this when watching the cyclones.com piece with Fountain and Ash, and everytime I hear Coach Rhoads talk about recruiting, he is always the most talked about. My theory is that coach is trying to win fast approval from Iowa high school coaches with all of the talk. Don't get me wrong, hope he is the greatest LB/DE in ISU history, just don't understand how so many other BCS missed missed on him.

I think they are just trying to sell us on good, wholesome, local kids that are gonna work their arses off. I think they want to make that a staple in their recruiting.

I had same thoughts, if that's the case they really made it too obvious, should talk about other Iowa boys.

Rhoads is on record as saying he wants 1/3 to 1/4 of each recruiting class to be Iowans. If he's going to pull that off, he's going to need the high school coaches on his side. In some of Mac's best years we were getting 5-6 of the top 10 players in the state, but between Iowa and Nebraska, we're always going to have a tough time cleaning up all of the talent in state. If we're taking 7-8 Iowa kids a year, we've just got to hope that the staff picks the right under the radar guys.

I think they hit the nail on the head with the walk-ons. Hatfield and Woody will not be outworked. Both will find their way on the field, if not on D then o Sp teams.

Best high school player in the CIML. Doesn't have the upside of Barrent but is a very good player

My observation is the same. Pretty obvious what they are trying to do by always mentioning Jake if you ask me.

I think Jake will be a good, tough player for us, but I doubt he sets the world on fire.

I really hope that is purely PC Coach Speak. This is a flawed approach to winning Big 12 titles in my opinion. If they are legit BCS, D1, Big 12 caliber, then fine. If not who cares and don't waste time and resources filling spots with Iowa kids that should be playing at Wartburg.

I liked Knott's videos better than Marry's. I've been saying for months that I couldn't believe no one had offered this kid.

What is so great about the upside of Barrent? I am sorry but I see more of an upside to Knott, 6'2" 230, 4.5 40, more size coming in then a lot of ISU great DE(Morrhead, Berryman Parker), with the same athletism, don't get me wrong, I think Barrent will probably be in the NFL some day with his size and athletism for his size but I don't see as much of an upside....

I'm sure CPR doesn't mean it literally. Chiz did such a poor job of reaching out to Iowa HS school coaches and showing interest in Iowa kids that CPR is just trying to rebuild those bridges.

I really don't think it's just coachspeak about Iowa kids when it comes to Knott. I asked PR about him after yesterday's lunch with no media around and he flat out said Knott could become one of the best players in this class. I only saw Knott play once but he was dominant against a very good Ankeny team. The kid is big, fast and tough, and I can't wait to see him in a Cyclone uniform.

I am good friends with the Waukee LB coach and told me that Knott is a FREAK! He is a stud LB, a great athlete, and one of the hardest working kids that you will ever come around. On top of that he is an Iowa kid. Put kids like that at ISU and we will turn this program around.

you are not going to find 20 d-1 athletes in iowa high school football-you have to go to california, texas,or florida to find a good population of d-1 footballers. most iowa high schools have about 2 coaches on their staff to coach football-some of the larger schools have a larger staffs. some of the schools in texas have a larger football staff than iowa state has for its complete football coaching staff-where in the hell do they get the money in texas, california and florida for these ridiculus sized staffs-lake travis in austin and southlake carroll have football facilities that are better than most college facitilies.even the pity "poor" dallas cowboys oftimes use the south lake carroll faclities for
practice because it beats their facilities.

dude. hes talking about him as an individual. Ankeny beat waukee in a close game the first time then a blow out in the playoffs, but Jake Knott was EASILY the best player on the field. same for the very close game waukee had against valley. Jake was the most dominant player in the CIML no only because of his defense but he was a star on offense as well. the teams top WR and averaged over 20 yards a catch..... hes a stud athlete

Knott seems to be a nice player. To claim he was "dominant" is pretty silly.

If this Knott kid is actually all that and a bag of Funyons, then great, welcome. My point is just that I hate the thought of offering mediocre Iowa kids just because they are Iowa Kids.

I want old Paul to spend more time and effort in Florida, Texas, Penn, California and Ohio.
