Now Fred just needs to get a hold of Royce, Melvin, Tyrus, and DeAndre and run an ISU style offense out there.

Man, loved me some "Uncle Jake" back in the day.

That 2010-2011 team was fun and on the cusp of being very competitive...

Garret (fringe NBA player)
Christopherson (best 3% in school history)
Anderson (16.6 PER in the Big 12, not great, but not bad)
Ejim (freshman version, though)
JVB ("big silky" himself)

+ Bubu and Godfrey

One more big, experienced big to chew up minutes and that run'n'gun, hair-on-fire style might have taken them somewhere.

Glad to see he's still fightin' the good fight and Fred's looking after his guys.

Good for Jake...I didn't know he was still playing. That was a fun team. Those guys battled; they just never could get over the hump in close games. I remember a handful of games where they had a shot to win or take a game to OT in the final minutes and it didn't happen. But it was awesome to see DG reach his potential that year. It's a shame he didn't have one more year in Ames. He and Royce would have made for a hell of a duo.

Jake was a really good player about as good as a 6' 2" forward could be.

I still think Fred couldn't have asked for a better group of guys his first year to establish the culture and teamwork that carried over to following years. Hoping Jake can help do the same for Fred's first NBA season. I wonder if Jake is interested in getting into coaching or other non-player role?

That team was fun. Even though they didn't win many games, they were more entertaining than any team McDermott put on the court.

That team had a lot of games they were within a possession in the last couple minutes if I remember correctly. Jake was the only closer on the team, but we didn't run it through him in crunch time enough.

How come Dendy wasn't on this team? I know he left before his senior season, but did he get into trouble? I can't remember. This team lost a lot of close games. If this team had him, they may have won enough games to make the tournament. Plus they didn't have Godfrey for a lot of games. If he could have kept straight he could have been more consistent on the court and had more playing time.

Hoiberg's way of throwing a little "non-NCAA violation" thank you money. :)

Gotta get him some Babb on his roster next.

Yes...it was expected to be perhaps the worst team since pre-Orr if I recall correctly, but they were able to actually stay in games and appeared to be much better than what their record showed.

Loved that team because you could really see a passion for the game coming from all the players.
